Who: Malachi, npc Buffy, Cas, Dante, Bonnie, the secret circle kids and Azazeal
What: Losing it
When: During the fight
Where: town
Warnings: angsty reaction to character death
Malachi intentionally positioned himself near the coven with the Skull. He was next to Bonnie and Dante. They were the line of defense that guaranteed the crystal skull could be used. When one of theirs went down, Malachi felt something begin to twist inside his head. He let out a powerful blast of magic along with his telekinesis and knocked several demons away to give them room to do what they needed to do and to keep the girl safe. He was keeping his mind open so he could hear Buffy as she made the climb to reach her sister and Connor. They were so close. So close.
The demons that got near him were quickly destroyed. He had one of his father's old swords, swinging it with precision and determination. They would win this battle, and the beast would be sent to rot in a proper hell. Or maybe her hell. He wasn't even sure what the plan was.
Until he heard her thoughts.
Malachi began to scream at her desperately, not caring who else could hear him as he began to run toward where she was. She was too far away from him so he couldn't jerk her back. "Buffy, love, I'm begging you. Do not do this. There's another way. BUFFY. THERE'S ANOTHER WAY."
He continued to scream at her as he parted through the crowds, good guys and bad ones, like Moses parting the red sea. There would be no failure. He had to reach her. He had to. When he heard her words to her sister, the tears began to dampen his eyes. "BUFFY, DON'T YOU LEAVE US. DON'T YOU DARE."
Demons were rushing toward him, and he pushed them back without worrying about killing them. Malachi had to reach her. Had to stop her. Why wasn't anyone stopping her?
She looked like an angel as she ran toward the death that was waiting for her. Blond hair flying behind her delicate frame, her body moving gracefully, and he tried to send the telekinesis up to catch her, to push her back, but he could not reach her. The scream that erupted from inside him seemed to shake the ground beneath his feet. She was gone.
She was gone.
She was gone.
"MALACHI," Bonnie's voice caught in his head, and he looked at her though red eyes. The ground was shaking beneath his feet because he was making it shake. One look at her face, at Dante's and he knew they understood what was happening. His father's voice raged inside his head.
"Don't do it, Malachi. Stop it this instance, I'm coming."
His hands balled into fists as he turned his head to survey this wretched world around him. His body vibrated with rage and he had only one thought. One crystal clear thought.
Let it burn.
With a clear thought, he shot powerful enough magic to take out several demons close by. They simply shattered into nothing. Nothing. Like this world would be when Malachi made it burn.
"Mal, don't!" Dante's words cut off, but Malachi knew he was in motion, trying to reach him because he was closer than Azazeal. It didn't matter. Castiel managed to appear before anyone could reach him.
"I'm sorry," he said, blue eyes locking on to blue eyes as his fingers suddenly tapped Malachi's forehead. The world went black as he went limp in his uncle's arms. Dante reaching there to help catch him before he hit the ground. His father would be there to collect him a moment later, but it didn't matter.
Nothing mattered.
She was gone. The blond women in Malachi's life that he allowed himself to love always died by sacrificing themselves. He should be used to it now. If only he'd realized he'd loved her before she was gone. Maybe that was the words he could have used to make her stay.
He doubted it, but it would haunt him for eternity as he tried to figure out if that was how he messed up in saving her.
