Castiel's fingers barely touched Dean's leg, and he closed his eyes for a moment when he felt the denim under his fingertips. He wanted to cry because he had this overwhelming sense of happiness. He'd always been fascinated with this human emotion that he possessed, but he had to be strong for Dean, no matter what he felt right now. He wanted to jump for joy, he wanted to tell Dean how scared he'd been when he woke in a place he didn't know without the feeling of Dean nearby. He even wanted to tell Dean everything Lucifer had been doing to him, but he couldn't—he didn't want to scare him and he certainly didn't want Sam to feel badly about what Castiel willingly did for him.
He opened his eyes again as he felt Dean's fingers grasping gently at his chin and turning his head from side to side, swallowing a little as he saw Lucifer over Dean's shoulder. He kept his eyes on his brother as Dean checked him for the injuries that weren't there, Castiel's fingers still grabbing for some fabric that Dean wore to keep him close, a reminder that he was real, he was here. He was alive.
“Oh, the cavalry is here for you, little brother. Leave it to you to need help from pathetic humans because your brothers in Heaven all know what a monster you really are. They're going to rip your grace from you, little brother, and you'll be kicked down to my cage.” He smirked.
“The cavalry...” Castiel said out loud, laughing softly, “The cavalry is here.” He locked his eyes with Dean for the first time in what felt like forever. He wanted to comment on the candy joke but he felt the locks give way and drop with heavy clunks to the blood stained wood floor beneath him.
Castiel looked to his wrists for a moment, still flecked with dried blood but otherwise in pristine condition. He looked to Dean again and all but fell forward against him, wrapping his arms around him and squeezing him tightly. He knew now why humans did this; because it felt so good. It comforted him a little bit, and for a moment before Jo's reminder, he felt like everything might get better.
“I can take us back to where you will be safe, Dean.” He said, “Jo is right. I'm not sure if and when Needy will be back and what she'll do if she finds you here.” He gripped the sleeves of Dean's jacket as he pulled back from him slightly. “I thought you were gone. Dead. When I woke up I didn't feel you at all any longer.”
Lucifer rolled his eyes, “Oh, brother. Why don't you just kiss him already? We both know those feelings you are struggling with aren't 'godly'.”
And then, as fast as Lucifer appeared, he was gone, rattling around in Castiel's head and making him pinch the bridge of his nose as a sharp headache throbbed up for a moment before settling down again.
“We have to get going. I think I can teleport us... I'm not sure I'm strong enough though.”
