Spencer Hastings thinks you need a babysitter (worry) wrote in zombieslogs, @ 2013-05-13 20:04:00
Who: Spencer, Emily, Toby and later Matt What: Battle Time When: Monday Where: The Prison Tower Warnings: Some violence
Spencer had spent the last few days either hanging out with Emily or hiding out with Matt. She knew it was wrong to feel excited about his win for The Council but to Spencer Hastings life was nothing but a competition. Matt had won the current ultimate and Spencer was excited for him. Of course, she would like her own turn being on The Council but she had voted for Matt every time and she was glad that he had finally made it. They were celebrating, or maybe spending the last few nights on Earth together, she wasn't sure which. The one thing that would suck was he would have to spend more time on his job and probably wouldn't be able to go with her to Katherine's much anymore. Spencer would manage though, she understood what was important.
Like being the best. Being your very best was a Hastings family tradition and not one that Spencer had forgotten since the world had ended with the zombie outbreak. In the former competitive world Spencer was a force to be reckoned with. She was brilliant, eloquent, well rounded and ambitious. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that Spencer wouldn't have become someone important if she had been given the chance to. But that world was gone and Spencer had adapted. She had never fired a gun before, had no reason to but it was a skill she had learned quickly. She had learned quickly because it was all mathematics really and she was athletic enough from playing field hockey. Besides Spencer did anything that she couldn't be the very best of which was why she was an expert marksman. She wasn't sure why she had never signed up for sentry before, it just hadn't seemed the right fit but standing in the tower with Emily she realized she was in the right place.
"Can you believe after everything we've been through this is how it could all end?" Spencer asked her friend during the calm before the storm as the two girls watched for any approaching enemies. Spencer was naturally a pessimist and was hoping for some of that Emily optimism to lift the edge off of the grim atmosphere. But Emily never had a chance to answer. Spencer had spotted the monsters making their way out of the shadow of the forest through the binoculars.
Immediately her and Emily fell into position, taking out walkers where they could. When the two headed demon came towards them Spencer felt a little panicked especially when her gun jammed. "Damn it," she muttered as she started messing with the mechanisms before ultimately dumping it for another. Just as she straightened back up she froze in her tracks as she watched someone tall, someone with eyes like the sky and sandy brown hair. She watched him annihilate the demon in shocked silence. Toby looked up at them and there was no mistaking who he was. Spencer nearly dropped her gun.
She didn't even have to say anything, Emily did it for her. That was Toby. He was here. The jacket it all made. The blood on the jacket wasn't Toby's. Because Toby was a vampire now. Her eyes had watched him zip back into the woods just like they did. The raw strength he used to kill the demon. Vampire. Just like all of Matt's friends. Toby was a vampire.
Emily didn't stay long. Before Spencer even knew what was happening her best friend was a ghost. Just like Toby. Automatically she held up her gun and started shooting at the zombies because she had promised to protect the prison.
Once the fight was over Spencer immediately wanted to find Toby. She wanted to grab the nearest person and demand that they accompany her on a wild goose chase. Instead she checked her phone and on the network Toby had posted. She immediately took the bait.
After she was done talking to him, she felt numb. There was of course relief that the battle seemed mostly over and worry about when Matt would return. Then there was finding out where Emily had gone. And Toby. She curled her longer fingers around her smartphone as she watched Allison cover her tower. The two girls hadn't even exchanged pleasantry but Allison was on point and Spencer left quietly.
Things were still a bit chaotic in the prison as the injured were being herded in. Spencer knew the best thing she could do was to stay out of the way and so she found Matt's cell and waited for him there.
