Who: Emily with some npc of Toby, Spencer, and Wanda
What: Defending the prison and seeing a ghost
Where: Sentry tower
When: Glory fight, today
Warnings: Basic shoot 'em up disclaimer
She didn't want to sit on the sidelines anymore. The daughter of a soldier didn't belong hiding inside of a prison only to let everyone else risk themselves for her because she happened to be human. Screw that, Emily was going to fight. She didn't have any supernatural powers, but she could fire a decent shot thanks to Wayne Fields and the training she'd been receiving from both Laura and Logan in survival. She may not have been trained as a soldier, but she wasn't going to let someone threaten her home without taking a stand. Not this time.
They may not have been expert shooters, but Spencer and Emily were keeping as many zombies and demons back that came towards their side of the prison. There was a fierce determination in her eye as she focused her vision into the scope and fired into a zombie. Spencer fired and down the monster went. If she wasn't so wrapped up into what she was doing and feeling the tension in her shoulders, she probably would have taken a moment to give Spence a high five for a job well done. But now was not the time and Emily was too focused.
She was so focused that she had set her sights on some movement in the distance that she didn't see the two headed demon approaching at a fast speed before it was too late. One of the heads suddenly appeared in her vision and she was bracing for an attack when out of no where a body slammed into the demon and it was destroyed. Emily gasped and grabbed tightly onto Spencer's arm.
"Is that..."
A familiar face turned to look up at both girls. The face was the same, but the expression was different. Harder. They were all harder these days, but something else was different. Emily couldn't tear her own eyes away from his until he turned and ran away so fast that she dropped her gun onto the floor of the tower. And then he was gone.
"Toby."
Her voice was as quiet as a whisper. Emily's eyes met Spencer's and wasn't able to say anything else. All of the clues they'd received. The jacket. It had been Toby all along. Emily had tried to convince herself over and over again that he was safe somewhere far from here and maybe even with Hanna or Aria, but Spencer had been the one who was right. Toby was in Everett and he wasn't the Toby he remembered.
Before either of the girls could process what had happened, there was the sound of rushing wind and Emily looked down to see three of the mutants appear in the blink of an eye. The siblings. Without a word, Emily descended some of the steps in their tower and called out to them as they were ushered inside. The dark haired one, Wanda, was injured and her brother carried her inside with Lorna hovering close.
"What happened, is she alright?" Wanda was fading in and out of consciousness, but she quickly remembered that they knew of Logan and Laura. They were mutants too. "Are Laura and Logan alright? Did you see them? The ones with metal claws."
Lorna and Pietro didn't seem to remember seeing them, but Wanda opened her eyes and looked at Emily. Her eyes rimmed with tears even in her exhausted state. "She's gone. The child is gone."
Emily felt her stomach sink and she felt like she was going to be sick. She couldn't be right. Logan and Laura were too strong, too powerful. They weren't supposed to be able to be killed, not ever. Laura had become an unlikely but close friend ever since the body switch. Emotion threatened to rise up from her throat and bubble over, but she bounded back up the tower and picked up her gun. Fighting back the tears, she took position again and fired at the first movement she saw outside the prison gates. Toby was here but Laura was gone. She wasn't going to let the demons take any more of her friends today.
