Who: Jessica and Captain Jack What: a moonlit walk Where: the forest When: Friday night after Gigi's funeral Warnings: None
Jessica was still embarrassed about her encounter with Sam. He had been so nice to her even though she knew it was against his nature to. Yes, she had heard the numerous rumors around the prison about how he was some kind of badass demon hunter. Jessica could only assume that the term demons reached to vampires as well. Which annoyed her almost as much as that Daryl guy calling her "one of them things". She was no demon. She was a Vampire American and she had rights.
She used to have rights anyway, before the world went to hell in a handbasket.
Then there was Pam trying to tell her that she wasn't safe at a prison. If a vampire couldn't be safe in a prison then who could be? Jess wasn't sure. She left the decision making up to the people in charge in the prison. She really hoped that they knew what they were doing. Because Jess knew that she wasn't capable of making any big decisions. Little decisions and decisions for herself, sure. But the big ones? The life or death ones? Jessica didn't want that responsibility and she sure hoped that everyone else in the prison knew not to vote for her.
She had been pleasantly surprised to see that Captain Jack Harkness had been voted into the leadership council since she had voted for him. There was something about him that seemed all worldly even if he was from what she could tell, only a decade or so older than she was. He was so self assured, it reminded her a little bit of Bill and Eric and Pam. She figured a person would get to be that way eventually. But Bill and Eric and Pam were all over a century old and Eric was way way older than that even. How could Jack have figured out what they had in thirty years? She didn't know but she wanted to find out. She wanted to be like him, to be self possessed and not so insecure.
Gigi's funeral had been real sad but Jess didn't know her that well so she didn't cry. The last part was good because when she cried she tended to make a bloody mess. She had also opted not to say anything. It wasn't that she thought ill of Gigi, she didn't. She'd liked the girl in the brief time that she had known her. The time had been brief and because of that Jessica hadn't known her that well.
She tried not to let the depressing vibe of the memorial service to get her down as she walked to Jack's cell. "Congratulations!" she exclaimed, smiling broadly. "I was gonna bring you that scotch to celebrate but I thought we could just go get some. I can protect you out in the woods."
After all, it was nighttime and night was when the monsters came out to play. Luckily, Jack would have his own personal monster bodyguard.
