The grass shook violently under their feet. For the first time, Cassie felt a shiver of fear race along her spine, all the way down to the tips of her toes sheltered away in her sneakers. The realization suddenly hit her, a realization Melissa might have had since the beginning, that they could both die here. The blond witch took a deep, but shaky breath and glanced over at the brunette beside her. Could two young girls with supernatural gifts be enough to even make this thing halt a second in its tracks? Maybe they would only be a buzzing fly in its decaying ear? Just like a fly, would he smash them too? It seemed more than an apt description in this situation, didn't it?
"Melissa, if you want to go..." she trailed off; Cassie felt magic, strength pouring into her veins, tapping into her own powers and she knew the other witch was adding her strength to the blond's own gifts. Without a second thought, Cassie reached out and took the other teenager's hand in her own. The dark witch interrwined their fingers; physical contact strengthed the flow of magic between them and honestly, Cassie didn't want anything to happen to Melissa. Adam would be devastated and Cassie didn't want the dark half of her to even be remotely satisfied. It kept tempting her, saying she could have Adam all to herself, but Cassie shoved it away. She'd fight the darkness even if it killed her.
Her blue eyes darted around, scanning the trees and the brush, before a thought finally struck her. "Want to try and knock it out? If we disable it, we might be able to kill it." Kill it. When did it become so easy for her? For them? Melissa hadn't taken a life, not yet, but Cassie knew there was a thrill in it, a frigthening, devastating thrill that was a high nothing and no one could compare to. Her dark magic crackled with anticipation; it wanted to hurt someone, something, and right now it would take the giant zombie smashing its way towards the two girls. As it was, one of the trees nearest to the decaying monster suddenly burst into flames and started crashing down on the beast. Death was needed to awaken dark magic, but it only needed killing and pain to survive. Justification for killing...would she ever run out of it?
