He ignored her as they walked. He knew what he was doing, draining zombies, it was doing something to him, but he always relied on her and he knew he couldn't. She couldn't always be there and most times it was like he didn't want her to be. He wished that he didn't have to rely on her, or to even have that underlying knowledge that she'd be there. But he'd always protect her. No matter what. Even if she couldn't help him. He would have done it over and over again if he knew that Kaitlyn would have been okay and safe.
They started through the woods back to the inn and he had stayed silent most of the way, but he could hear her voice in his head, trying to talk to him. Trying to get through.
Over and over he heard her voice and finally, he couldn't take it anymore. He grabbed her suddenly, pushing her against a tree and he looked down at her. He held her in place and his face was so close to hers. There was anger in his eyes and the moment her eyes looked back him, confused definitely, but there was no fear in them, he swallowed and let go of her, shaking his head.
"Just stop. It doesn't matter. I'd do it again if I had to. And I'd want to."
