Damn it. She rolled her eyes but still walked beside him as they headed back to the inn. She was worried about that rampaging zombie but hopefully somebody would be able to stop it. They were not those people. Truthfully, they had relied on Gabriel's ability to use his abilities to drain the zombies of their essence... or whatever that was. Kaitlyn was scrappy but not an exceptional fighter. Her only superpower were her strange premonitions.
But that was before she knew! Damn it. He could shield his thoughts so much easier than she could. It was hurting him and he didn't tell her, he didn't show her until it got so overwhelming for him he couldn't take it anymore. If she had known they would have found another way. But Kaitlyn also knew that if it weren't for Gabriel's ability to drain zombies of their non-energy they would probably be dead already.
I know you did it for me. But what if something happens to you? What am I supposed to do then?
Selfishly, they wanted to protect each other. She could scold him all she wanted but he would continue to use that power until it killed him. And it would kill her, of that Kaitlyn was positive. When she nourished him with her own clean, healthy and strong psychic energy she could sense what that darkness and death was doing to him. It was warping him. And she was worried.
