When Lissa said that she understand, Phoebe smiled a little, somewhat grateful. This was really a conversation she should have been having with Piper, but her sister was still getting settled while also dealing with her grown son at the same time. She'd tell Piper eventually, of course, but for now she'd been trying to deal on her own. It was almost a relief that Lissa actually did seem to understand what she was saying.
"It's more of a feeling...urges I'm not used to. And I'm...scared of it." For a moment, the older woman hesitated, then gave a small, apologetic smile. "There's a story behind it, really. Several years ago, not long after my sisters and I had our powers reawoken, we made the mistake one day of misusing them. As a punishment, we were sent to the future, where we saw that those tiny choices led to bigger ones. In this future world, I had the ability not only to sense emotions...but I could, essentially, enhance someone's emotions and reflect them back on someone. In that future, I killed a man, and was punished. Ever since, I've hoped that I wouldn't get to that point, but...in recent years, I could use my power to deflect energy balls and fireballs back on the attacker. That ability is now progessing into this other..." She trailed off again, looking down at the table.
She had no idea why she was telling Lissa all this, but it was nice to talk to someone else, someone who didn't really know her, but still understood. "I don't want to get to the point where I'm tempted to do that to someone. I don't want my powers to get that strong, but it's not something I can control from happening." Essentially, she didn't trust herself to be able to handle the temptation. Not after how dark she'd gone in the past.
