"No, don't ask the vampires. Maybe if they can't find anything, but they're hunters and have animal instincts. If he's in the area then if anyone can find him, they can." Or they would find someone the jacket belonged to hopefully not buried deep in the snow somewhere. Emily didn't say the rest of those thoughts out loud though because she was trying to push them down and out of her mind.
Besides, if it did belong to Toby and he knew about Everett and the prison, wouldn't he have said something before now? Spoken up? What if A really was in town and had planted the jacket herself? Ugh. Now she felt like she was turning into Hanna and coming up with every crazy idea in the book. But at least she wasn't blurting them out without thinking ahead of her mouth.
She sighed and gingerly took the jacket in her hands. She was going to have to get it to Logan and Laura soon because she knew her friend and Spencer wasn't going to let this go. She understood why she was holding out hope, but she was jumping at a single straw here and Emily didn't want her to come crashing down so hard that picking herself back up would be too hard. The answer to the question about the jacket had a number of possibilities and some of them scared Emily.
"So, how is the thing at Katherine's going? Has it gotten any less weird to be going there all the time?"
Emily was content to be at the prison doing the housework for the most part. It was something normal. So maybe not the types of cleaning she sometimes did or the blood she often helped wash out of people's clothing, but sweeping, laundry, and making up beds? It was one of the only normal and non freaky things she had the chance to do here and she was holding onto it.
