Something told Elena that Elijah was not looking forward to reuniting with his brothers and sister. She knew that the dynamic between the four of them was complicated but family could get like that. When Elena thought back on Jenna's final days, on the way things were with her and Jeremy now she understood just how complicated they could be.
"It's safe here." She promised him with a reassuring smile. It was safe for her here, she thought. It was safe for Jeremy. Things happened here sometimes like when the zombies came or when Buffy had tried to shoot her way in. On both occasions the prison had worked together to hold back the threat and Elena was pleased with that. This world was crumbling around them but the prison was safe. Elena was sure of that.
She lingered outside of the front gates where she had signed herself out. She did not see any signs of Damon or Stefan anywhere which meant they hadn't looked at the list to see who she had signed out with. It was also possible that Damon was watching this exchange through his own mind and the connection they shared. He would have something to say about it she was sure.
"If you ever need me you know where to find me." She knew it was more likely that she would need Elijah than he would need her. He was an original vampire and Elena was barely over a year old.
