His eyes stared into the fire while Rose was upstairs. The flames flickered and danced, the wood crackling. In a small way, the sound comforted him and pulled him in to a time that wasn't nearly so complicated. Times were often hard at court, but they were much more clear to Dimitri than they were now. He was surrounded by people and placed he knew rather than strangers and obstacles that floundered him.
Rose's footsteps above him from upstairs brought him back and he stood up to look outside the window again. Dimitri tried another call on the radio, but received no response from anyone. Not Shannon and not anyone back at the prison. They were safe here at the cabin and he hoped no one was sent after them only to become lost themselves. He hadn't had a chance to radio in their location once they arrived at the cabin.
Cold fingers touched the back of his neck and he turned around and was surprised to see Rose standing there in nothing but a blanket. Her hair cascaded over her shoulders in long waves and he smiled as he took in the view she gave him.
"Basic survival 101," he remarked. "Exploring, were you?"
The reason they were out in the storm still plagued the back of his mind, but Dimitri had eyes and it was impossible to look away from Rose as she stood in front of him.
