Dean’s smile remained easy going, but he watched Robin with quiet eyes, tracking the small changes in her expression which had become something of a habit these days. Interested in the clues that lay hidden there now that he had the time to pay attention, not something he would have bothered with before when the road had been his only home and his future wasn’t something that anyone could count on. Not that Lisa hadn’t tried for longer than Dean thought he was worth, but the way that had ended was enough of a reminder that hunters weren’t like other people. They didn’t get to keep things, let alone the fragile kind that made them happy, not if they didn’t want it broken. So he wasn’t surprised that more than half of him was already internally cringing, convinced that this slow growing sense of attachment he felt between them was just the beginning of a disaster waiting to happen. But looking at her now, words suddenly shy as she fiddled with his jacket, head tucked down with wet snowflakes highlighting her hair, Dean couldn’t think of a more beautiful mess he’d rather get pulled into.
When her answer finally did come the hunter nodded, hands moving to slide up and down her lower back, transferring warmth and maybe a bit of comfort because he knew all too well what it was like to feel big things but not have the words to express them. Cause big brothers substituting for mom and dad didn’t need to talk about their feelings. They just took care of what needed to be done until the hurt eventually went away or became just another part of them. Yet even though that had always been good enough for him Dean wanted Robin to know she had someone to talk about these things if she needed it. He wouldn’t push because that wasn’t how they were with each other, they had plenty of people already making enough demands on their skills and time, but he’d let her know he was there.
So he pressed his smile to her temple as if he were wishing her good thoughts, the contact considerably chaste for them as he took in his own breath of some much needed air and closed his eyes for a second. His next words tousling her hair, “Sounds like a good plan to me.”
