High heels? Steve frowned intensely at that. What in the world would be the point of wearing high heels in the wilderness? Sensible shoes meant to endure the weather should be common knowledge. Were they going to stumble upon someone who was succumbing to the elements due to not knowing how to dress for the winter?
It would be spring soon. That must he was sure of, but Everett wasn't showing any signs of that yet. He was about to comment to Maria about the heels, when they spotted the woman and the fawn. As the animal made a run for it, Steve stood up straight and took in the woman. Her description matched what he had been given, and what he had seen on the net.
Cautiously, he took a couple steps to move in front of Maria. He had his shield, but his body was Maria's shield. This Hell God was known to feed on brains and to kill without a second thought. Maria would not be her victim. Steve would not allow it.
"We have no key, and I have no idea what you mean about sacrifices. However, if that is what you considered that fawn, then you and your intentions scared it off." Steve's voice was calm, but his tone was firm. He was a soldier at heart, and as such he was sizing up this threat. She looked like a beautiful woman, but the way she spoke made her seem ugly to him. Beauty was anything but skin deep, and this one was something off. Dark and dangerous. Even Steve could see that.
"It was not our intention to disturb you." Which was true. They were looking for something else. The shield was secure in his hand, his body battle ready, but he didn't make a first move beyond keeping Maria behind him. This Hell God would not be touching a hair on her head. Not as long as Steve was standing.
