Who: Meredith Fell & Open What: Arriving at the prison. Where: Wilderness and then entering the prison. Warnings: None.
Meredith couldn't remember that last time she had slept within a building with at least four solid walls. With her small group, she'd slept out in the open mostly, but on occasion, they'd made camp in the remnants of homes. Now, she was only a little further from a possible home, a prison, but a refuge from the dangerous living dead all the same. It was still a bit further from her current location, but the doctor was determined to make it. She didn't fear death, you couldn't in a place that was overflowing with its presence, but she was sure as hell going to fight for every bit of life she had left in this weakened, skinny body. She'd taken only one break, finding a stream to refill her two water bottles, and then sat for only a few minutes before rising to her feet, a bit dizzy, but no less determined to make it to the shelter of the prison.
She hadn't eaten for about a day and a half. If she didn't get nourishment soon, she'd be in serious, but obvious danger of death. Her only saving grace was the water she currently carried with her along with a few mere medical supplies, in her small knapsack strung over her shoulder. When the zombie infestation occurred, Meredith had been at her place in Mystic Falls, the hospital, caring for patients, and as always, cheating ever so slightly with a transfusion of vampire blood that would ensure the victim of whatever injury, survived and recovered fully. It hit slowly, but eventually, everyone she thought she had protected, turned into a flesh-eating monster and she had to flee her own home in the Virginia town. From there, it was numerous, nameless months of roaming around the wilderness, taking shelter and making a home where they could, and Meredith shifted from group to group aimlessly. She offered her services where she could and saved lives when she was able. It was painful; she was the doctor that hated to watch her patients die and now there was so very little she could do to stop it. No medical supplies made it impossible to keep dying people alive and there was no cure for the zombie virus. During her stay with the last group, a fight broke out and the members split from the small space they made camp. Meredith stayed there for three days, but none of them returned and when one did, she slaughtered it with one of the precious few bullets she had left in her handgun.
She'd been on the run ever since and hadn't thought to try the network until she was finally utterly and completely alone. Thankfully, this was the one time it went through and at the sight of a building in the distance, she started walking with a new purpose to survive. Now, only a few steps from the large, rather dominating building, she allowed herself to fall to her knees, breathless, and just stare at it, amazed such a structure even still stood in such an apocalypse world.
