Who: Captain Jack & Gwen Cooper What: Ensuring a safe passage for Gwen to get to the prison Where: Neighboring abandoned town When: Friday afternoon Warnings: Will update; none now
Jack could barely contain himself as he got ready to head out. Gwen was out there, out there and she was close but she was in danger and Jack knew it. He didn't know what had come of Gwen and Rhys following all of their past events, and Jack didn't say so much as a goodbye as he packed his things and headed off to New York City to fight with a regiment led by a man whose bed Jack found himself in one night. But, as with all of the people Jack liked, he too had met a bitter end; one that Jack still hadn't forgiven himself for.
By the time he went to help him, he was dead, bitten down to the bone in some places, flesh mangled and blood everywhere. Jack held him for a little while, even as he begged to be shot before he turned. And when his eyes closed, and his body went limp, Jack shot and killed him before he reanimated. Another one he couldn't save. It wasn't as heart wrenching as when he lost Ianto; nothing would compare to that loss, but it still had cut deep. And the subsequent treatment of him from the regiment was something to be forgotten, too. He'd been tortured many times in his life, but none so badly as recently.
Now, he'd escaped, and was finding refuge among the things he understood the most; the supernatural. The demons, the vampires and werewolves; no weevils though. He was seeking refuge and keeping his secret under wraps; if people knew he couldn't die, he didn't want to know what they might do to him. Probably something akin to what the military did.
When Jack left the prison, he left armed. Usually he just went in with a hatchet to dispatch the zombies when no one was looking, but if he was going to get Gwen back safely he was going to have to keep the undead at a distance. He didn't want her in harms way. He followed her to where he knew she'd be, looking around to make sure the coast was clear before anything.
“Gwen?” He called, “Gwen it's Jack, come on, we've got to get back before nightfall.”
