It was easy to focus on Rose and tune out her biological father. He seemed to catch the drift they needed some privacy, but he hadn't actually left. Maybe he was waiting to see if Victor or Nathan would come back, or maybe he just didn't know what to do.
Whatever it was, Jill was ignoring him for Rose. Rose who smelled good and felt warm, and gave all the signs she was alive. Jill really wanted to cling to he living right now. Even if it was the vampires who technically were the undead. At least you could touch them.
Which brought a smile to her face when Rose questioned about the blood payment. "Eric won't charge me, and he won't charge Adrian either. I've spoken with him. Don't ruin his big bad rep, okay? But he has a bit of a soft spot for me."
She'd made friends with a viking vampire. What could she say? They just hit it off. Trading bodies had only solidified the fact they would be connected for life. "We'll be safe there, and you can check on Dimitri and keep an eye on Lissa while she's keeping an eye on Christian. It will be easier on you guys to keep your guards up if you aren't worried that Adrian and I are going to go crazy."
Because she normally would be the first to say that she was fine, and that Adrian could handle more than people realized, but this was testing her own limitations. Lowering her voice a bit more she confessed, "I'm so distracted, Rose. I can't even slip into his head and check on him. I don't know if he is okay, and I don't want to risk bringing my ghost entourage to him either way. We'd come back when this is over."
