Rhea's interference was a relief. The room simply felt too confined to have this many people in it. Even if most of the occupants were dead, it didn't change how crowded it felt. Especially when two were throwing punches. It was the sympathetic look from her sister's mother that caught Jill off guard. She'd expected them to ignore her at best, or hate her at worst.
It seemed Nathan was able to catch on to her thoughts because he began a slow mocking clap. "This is touching. Really. The wife trying to protect the family's shame. If only he'd knocked up a dhampir girl, right? Then it would all be socially acceptable."
Jill looked away, not comfortable being put in the middle of it. It was true that Moroi men were afforded certain liberties with dhampir women that they weren't with others, but to have a Srigoi running his mouth about it was a bit much to take. "See, if only he'd lived long enough to see you grow up, Rose. You have a bucket load of Daddy issues right? Unless the Dragomir son had called dibs?"
"You will watch your mouth," Victor actually looked enraged. Apparently it was one thing for him to do horrible things, but for an outsider to make crude comments? That wasn't acceptable.
Nathan kept his gaze on Rose, hoping he could goad the little vixen into coming a him. Sure, she wouldn't connect and he couldn't hurt her, but watching her bounce off a wall would never get old. Nor would stirring up a bunch of royals, even if most of them were as dead as he was. "I guess I could go spend some time with your boyfriend, Lunch. All you have to do is ask me to leave nicely."
