The order to eat breakfast wasn't argued, and that alone was a sign of how worn out he felt. He just quietly grabbed a plate and served himself some waffles and bacon. The coffee would be used later, at the moment his stomach was still reconciling the idea of actual food.
"He's bossy, isn't he?" Obadiah asked Tony as he propped himself up on the counter. When the man he had helped raise didn't answer, he just smirked. "And apparently you also let him boss you around. Interesting."
Tony didn't answer, though, and instead just focused on his food as he tried to ignore him. Them. Everyone.
It wasn't working.
"'What happened'?" Howard echoed. "What happened. Things changed, Steve. Not just people. The entire world changed after the war. Weapons just got bigger and deadlier, because we couldn't keep up any other way. Have you caught up on the aftermath? Everything we knew was gone." He paused, his gaze focused on Steve. "And we lost you, and we looked for you, and now look at you. Obviously you were still there. We just couldn't find you."
Howard paced slightly, his expression similar to his son's when he looked for a drink. Suddenly he needed a drink, even if he knew he couldn't quite grasp the glass. But, almost as quickly as it started, he stopped and Howard's only focus was Steve once more. "I'm sorry, that we couldn't find you. But all this... Things just change, Steve. You said it yourself, you just weren't around to see it."
