Faith did not like being called petnames. Darling, love, sweetheart, honey, it didn't really matter what it was she despised it. She was sure it had something to do with all of her mom's ex-boyfriends trying to butter her up with petnames before they tried to crawl in bed with the underage Faith.
She hit him again, really hard this time. Hard enough to break a neck or send a demon staggering back, stunning it enough to chop off its head with whatever happened to be handy. But Jack wasn't a demon, he was human and his neck made a loud snapping sound, his head facing her at a weird angle before he dropped to the floor.
"Shit!" Faith exclaimed as she dropped to her knees beside him and felt desperately for a pulse. "You can't be dead, you can't be dead," she whispered in a panic as she tried to slap his face and wake him up. But she knew he was dead, nobody's head went on their neck at that angle. She thought briefly about heaving him up onto her shoulders and running him to the infirmary to see if anyone there could help him. But not even a vampire could help Jack Harkness now. Faith had killed him.
She quickly crawled away from him and sat in the corner in a small huddled mass of panic. She rocked back and forth a few times with her eyes squeezed shut trying to will it all away like a bad dream. It didn't matter that he had asked her to go all out on him. She shouldn't have. It was her responsibility to keep people safe and now she'd killed somebody. What would Alec say about her now? She had thrown him out for the same offense.
And the sad truth was, it wasn't even the first time Faith had killed someone. She had murdered plenty of people back in her less stable days and each one of them came rushing back to her now as they so often did at night when she was trying to sleep. The road to redemption was a rocky path but how could she ever be redeemed if she kept fucking up?
She slammed the back of her head into the wall before going back to rocking back and forth. She wasn't ready to face this yet and she didn't know what to do.
