Eddie was in hyper guardian mode from the moment he saw Jill on the network. He had so much on his mind lately and she had been one of the recurring themes. He felt helpless to do anything about Lissa's situation, and he could feel Rose and Adrian both slipping away with each passing day. If it hadn't been for Mia, he might have completely lost his mind. She had been a constant source of emotional support and stability lately.
But right now all of those people were safely back at the prison and his princess was lost out there amid a landscape of mindless cannibals. He knew that Jill would have an advantage if she stayed near a water source but a river was long and wild and it wasn't much to go on. Eddie could run fast but he had a lot of ground to cover if he was going to find Jill.
Just as he was about to pull his hair out in giant yellow tufts, he received a message from Sydney on his phone. She had completed the location spell and had sent him coordinates for Jill's location.
Eddie burst into a sprint as he began heading in the right direction. It wasn't long until he did find Jill. She was freezing zombies in the river but she didn't see the zombies that were shambling towards her from behind. Her back was to them and she was definitely on their menu.
"Jill!" Eddie yelled.
He didn't stop, he ran past her and pulled his stake out of his pocket and slammed it into one of their heads, he had to use his foot to kick the dead body away. He had pierced the brain and sometimes a stake (his preferred weapon) got stuck there. He probably should have brought a sword, Clary had been practicing with him. But swords were unwieldy and hard to run with.
He spun around and slammed the stake into the other zombie's head, right between his head. His skin was already sliding off which made taking the stake out easier as he joined his friend on the ground; finally really dead.
And then things moved so quickly. He was moving, she was moving, and the next thing he knew he had his arms full of Jill. Much like the night they had all ganged up on the Strigoi and Jill had come to their rescue, Eddie was furious with her. His anger was only superseded by his relief. Caught up in the moment, he kissed her.
