The sound of metal jingling could be heard as the professor poured the coins into his coin purse. Counting out the earnings with mild interest as he absentmindedly nodded to the customer who waved goodbye. Truth be told, James hated the mundane affairs of commerce that he was forced to take part in. Yet his research into the arcane required funding, and so Blackstone endured the seemingly endless parade of people pawing to get their grubby hands on the magic trinkets he created. Those little baubles and potions never did remain stocked for long, and so the unending cycle of creation, commerce, research, and creation would begin anew. Mostly it was the potions, wind chimes, and enchanted silk handkerchiefs that sold out quickly. Though from time to time he'd get a special request for something or another.
Here and now though, after finally closing up shop when the last client wandered on their merry way, the professor finally managed to sit down and relax on the chair placed right outside his wagon. The scent of cherry and honeysuckle filled the air as Blackstone proceeded to light up his pipe; and after taking a few puffs he flashed the faintest smile as the mage watched the exhaled smoke briefly take on the form of a flying little bird, before it dissipated with the gentle breeze. For a minute or two the illusionist continued to watch that smoke figments dance and flutter about with each exhaled breath. But sure enough his focus finally shifted back to the next task on his mental to do list. With a tiny sigh James dug out his notebook from his coat pocket, and after reaching the right page he settled in to work. Using a half worn pencil to notate his thoughts on a new spell he'd been toying with for the last few days. From time to time the magically animated smoke creatures would try and peek at his work, yet with a wave of his hand they'd disappear. Only to be replaced with new smoke creations every time the professor took another puff on the pipe dangling from his lips.
