stefan salvatore ([info]humane) wrote in [info]zfuturelogs,
"I ... don't know," Stefan said, confused by what was in front of him. Damon was gone. Damon that was asleep with no signs of waking up. He moved around the small space as if it would have the answers he needed to his questions. It didn't. Nothing in this room tipped him off and his eyes met Elena's and there was panic on his face. The first was loss and his chest tightened at the thought of him ...gone for good. Grief poured through him, but he didn't want think like that. He didn't want to think that his brother had been taken.

And what if Damon was awake? That ... it made him happy, but it was a double edge. If Damon was alive, he was losing Elena. He knew that and the look on her face, the confusion and the pain and deeper there was joy because there was a possibility that he was awake. He rubbed his forehead, trying to wrap his mind around the fact that his brother was gone from his resting spot. That was the first thing. Find out the truth, deal with everything later. Damon was most important.

He concentrated, trying to pick up anything. His senses kicked into high gear and he smelled something familiar, but he couldn't place it. It was there for a split second and then it was gone. "He's not here, we need to track him and go from there," Stefan said, walking past Elena and outside. She followed a moment later as he looked down at the ground. Maybe footprints? Something? Anything?
