Who: Val and OPEN
Where: The path back to the mansion
When: Around 10:45am
Just when Val thought she was finding some kind of internal balance in this seriously messed up situation she'd been thrust into, something else seemed to come up to throw her completely off balance again. There had to be some kind of irony there, she supposed, as she had such a fantastic physical balance. She wasn't used to this mental instability, though; wasn't used to feeling so stressed and down and completely unlike herself.
She'd woke up this morning feeling like that was something she should change. These circumstances were completely out of her control, but she could control how she reacted to them. And why shouldn't she face this situation like some sort of adventure? She loved doing things that challenged her, and she supposed being in a place like this with no way out and no idea what was really going on and being watched over by anonymous people capable of a hell of a lot of scary shit was probably the biggest challenge she could possibly face.
And it was with that attitude that she'd finally left the mansion, donning her heels for the first time since waking up here. They really were uncomfortable, but she thought it wouldn't be worse than going barefoot for the three mile hike. She'd quickly discovered how wrong that thought was, and about a mile in, she caved and took them off again, carrying them by the straps. By the time she found her way to the hospital, her feet were definitely feeling it and she wished, not for the first time, that they'd nabbed her while she'd been wearing more practical shoes.
Once at the hospital, the level of strange just grew and grew. She wasn't sure what she'd expected, a staff ready for them, greeting them, and walking them through this whole physical thing? Hospitals were supposed to have more noise and activity, but this one was eerily quiet, and she was getting an awful feeling in the pit of her stomach. And still she moved on, walking through the halls, going up the elevator, and then stepping into that stainless steel hallway. There was something seriously off about it all, other than the lack of people, even if she couldn't pinpoint what it was.
When she went into one of the rooms with a green light over it, having noted that some of the doors had a red light over it, she glanced back at the door when she heard it shut and heard the click of a lock. It only made her more anxious, a feeling she wasn't particularly familiar with, one she definitely didn't like. And then the disembodied voice spoke. For the first time since waking up in this nightmare, she found herself completely unwilling to cooperate.
"Are you kidding?" Val spoke to no one. "There's no way I'm getting on that thing." And she turned, intending to go toward the door, when she felt a pain worse than any she'd ever experienced, starting at the base of her neck and branching down from there. She cried out, falling to the floor in a pathetic heap, her eyes filled. It took longer than it should have for her to pull herself back up, trying not to throw up as she did.
"Okay, got it," she muttered, reaching up to rub the base of her neck, remembering how sore it had been that first morning. Just what had they done to her? Shaking off those thoughts, she undressed and then got up on the exam table, laying down, still feeling anxious about the whole thing.
For good reason, apparently.
It had to have been the worst experience in an exam room she'd ever had, and she was definitely feeling violated by the end of it. When she was dismissed (and who knew a robot could sound so cheerful?), she sat there for a while still, just trying to pull herself together all over again. Finally, she got up and redressed, carrying her shoes once more. She felt like she was in some kind of daze as she left the exam room, vaguely noticing Cecilia sitting in the hallway as she went. Back down the elevator, through the halls, and back outside, her legs kept moving, but she wasn't fully aware of where she was going or anyone who might be around.
