Idle time was going to kill her. She'd gotten up later than she was used to, but still early for the house. She'd had breakfast, cleaned up after herself, roamed the downstairs for a little while before heading back upstairs. Then back downstairs. She ventured outside but it was way, way too cold to stay out long, so the idea of a walk was right out. Then again, the idea of walking in general was right out. She didn't want to take one of the snowmobiles just because she was bored because that seemed like an inappropriate use of resources. So she'd drifted into the kitchen. She'd opened and closed the cabinets and for a hot second or two gave very serious consideration to emptying out and cleaning the cabinets. But that would probably lead to rearranging and the very last thing she wanted to do was inadvertently screw up something. Maybe they'd taken a vote on how to arrange the cabinets and if she came through like a whirlwind because she was bored, how many people would be annoyed? She gave the same thought to the utility room, but the situation seemed the same in there. Still ... maybe she could straighten out what remained of the pet supplies? Or see if there were any neat toys left? It might kill a few minutes, so why not? While she knew bored was better than bad, she was almost - almost - wishing for something to happen. Not really, not truly, but the monotony was starting to get to her. At home ... at home there'd be feeding the horses, cleaning the stable, checking the fences - snow or no snow - ensuring all the cows were alive, well, and using their shelters. Then there'd be something else. Watching Carter play games, or playing with the dogs, or starting a snowball fight. There'd be home and freedom. Right now ... she thought she might go crazy if this went on much longer. After she finished up sort of reorganizing the remainder of the supplies, she stepped out of the utility room and made a sort of startled noise when she realized she wasn't alone. She laughed quietly when she saw who it was. "Hey," she said with a slight smile. |
