Long Night
Who: Lennon and Juno
Where: Juno's room
When: morning
Everything had felt skewed since the power had gone out the day before. He and Tobias had hung out with Chase and Kiley for a while before that, had lunch, and not long after that, the power was gone. Lennon had gone back to his room to shower in the dark, because there was only so much hanging out he could deal with without washing up, and he assumed that Tobias had either gone back to the guesthouse or was still hanging with Chase and Kiley. It was creepy how the storm raged and there were no lights to be found. Luckily for him, there were a handful of LED candles in his room, and he'd burned those until bedtime.
The night was long, and Lennon didn't sleep well. He kept waking up to crashes and thuds from outside as well as the faint sound of voices. Which was creepy because who'd be talking like that in the middle of the night? Lying wrapped up like a burrito in his covers at around 3 a.m., he tried to think of who was in the room next to him. He knew Pam was right across the hall, and maybe Avram, and he couldn't imagine who either of them would be talking to at that hour. Finally he fell back to sleep as he was trying to remember who was directly across the hall in the other direction.
The next time he awakened, he had to go to the bathroom badly enough that he'd been dreaming he was about to pee on somebody's prize rosebushes. Luckily he hadn't actually wet himself, damn. Lennon firmly told himself he was a full-grown adult and nothing was going to grab him from beneath the bed to make himself get up and dart across the room to his bathroom. At least he didn't have to go out in the hall to the public one. He felt mature and grown-up as he took care of business and washed up, and that lasted until he got back into the bedroom and thought he saw somebody walking out his door, as if they'd come in while he was in the bathroom and were now leaving. Jesus, his eyes had to be playing tricks on him, he thought a moment later. The door was closed, and he hadn't seen or heard it move. So he didn't really see what he thought he'd seen, and that was all there was to it.
He hurried back to bed, almost wishing he could go pile up with Chase and Kiley. Chase had said it would be okay, but he couldn't quite do it. So he wrapped himself up again, leaving only the smallest hole for his nose, so he could breathe. He had no idea what the hell time it was, but probably a couple of hours passed in which the sky didn't light significantly at all but he knew it had to be morning. It was just that he kept hearing things, dammit!
"What the fuck is my life," Lennon griped to himself, getting out of bed and grabbing one of the LCD candles and turning it on. He thought of his options, then remembered that Juno was hurt. He didn't think she was still in Marco's room, and if she was hearing stuff too, she'd have a hard time getting anywhere on her own. He wasn't sure if Jim would be in there-- although he knew the priest and Juno wouldn't be sharing the bed-- but even if he was, Jim was okay. His mind made up, Lennon crept out of his room in t-shirt and the boxer briefs he'd slept in, waxy-smelling fake candle in hand, to scurry down the hall to Juno's room.
"Juno?" he called out softly, knocking quietly on the door. "You in there? It's Lennon."
