Who: Jeremy and Griffith Where: Jeremy's room When: Backdated to yesterday after school. What: Griffith tries to be social and has some kind of success.
Jer hadn't had a good week. He had turned in his book report for extra credit in attempts to pass English class, but he had only gotten a C on it, so his grade still hung in the balance. He didn't feel up to skating or even going around and harassing others. It was a rather slow day. Isaiah was always busy, it seemed, doing something else far more important than hanging out with him and while Jer didn't realize it at the moment, he didn't have very many friends around the school. At the moment the skater boy was lying in bed. He had only bothered to get dressed for classes, but after he returned to his room he quickly kicked off his shoes and tugged off his shirt and rolled his bare, aching shoulders before plopping down on the bed. His roommate was out doing who knows what and he was somewhat glad to have some time alone.
Jeremy ruffled his messy head of 'skater hair' before lifting both arms and slipping them behind his head and staring up at the ceiling. He took a breath, his chest rising slowly and his legs crossing. He curled his toes, cracking them before pouting a little. Now if only he could somehow steal the finals test answers like they did in that one movie.
He didn't really know why he was here. Ok, he did know but it was still all rather odd to Griffith. His last encounter with Jeremy hadn't really gone so well. It was left him confused, though he was sure that he had said something wrong at some point during it. Not that he could actually pin point what it was. Arthur and Claudia had gotten it right away when he had told them, and they had simply smiled at each other knowingly over his head.
But anyway, Griffith reached Jeremy's door and knocked on it. He shuffled a bit as he waited for the door to open and mumbled what he was going to say under his breath.
Jeremy glanced from the ceiling towards the door. Oh lovely, probably a teacher here to escort him off the grounds for failing so many classes! He rolled his eyes before dropping back down on the bed and folding his arms behind his head. "C'min!" he shouted to the door. He knew it was unlocked and really didnt feel like getting up at all. Not when he figured it was just going to be someone to scold him.
What? Was that supposed to be 'coming' or 'come in'? Griffith blinked at the door and then frowned a bit at it. He really wished people would speak in a clearer manner. Sighing softly, he reached out and turned the handle pushing the door open a little bit and peeking in. "Jeremy?" Griffith sounded hesitant but that was how he always sounded. "Um..It's Griffith." He added needlessly. "I...came around to ask you how you did on that book report."
Jeremy's eyebrows went up when he heard Griffith's voice. It wasn't a teacher. He pushed himself up on his elbows and looked over towards the door. "Oh....hey, come in."
Why was Griffith here? Jeremy was convinced Griffith wanted nothing to do with him. It certainly seemed that way. Griff was always trying to avoid Jer or get him out or away. Now he was visiting? It didn't make any sense, but Jeremy was far too thickheaded and tired to care so he just pushed it all out of his mind. "What are ya doing here, dude?"
He slipped into the room, moving like a guy who was used to slipping around doors, and stood by it. Instinct made Griffith leave the door ajar and instinct kept his hand on the door knob in case it turned out that Jeremy didn't want company anyway. "I just wanted to inquire into your book report." He said, finding that he had to repeat himself. And then he found himself wondering why Jeremy didn't feel cold all shirtless like that in the winter. "I know you've probably handed it in by now, but how did it go?"
"Oh." Jeremy shrugged a little. He was a bit cold but he decided long ago to ignore it. He felt better shirtless. He always went around shirtless in LA and shirts just made him feel awkward. Sure his skin was taught and his nipples were always hard, but so long as he wasn't uncomfortable. He shrugged a little, sitting up in his bed, a bit too stupid to offer Griffith a place to sit or anything. Jer was never really taught manners.
He didn't mind that he wasn't going to be offered a seat. Griffith was alright with standing and he would never presume to go further into Jeremy's room and just sit anywhere. He was always painfully shy and too polite in that sense. "Oh." He said when the other boy told him that the grade was a C. It wasn't stellar but it wasn't a D or an F which was good. "I'm really sorry that I didn't come around to help you." Griffith said then, sounding sincerely apologetic. "My sister got into trouble..." And he was just too worried and pissed off to try to be social.
"I can help though if you're going to be doing another book report." He offered then. Surely there were other pieces of homework he could help with?
Jeremy lifted a hand and waved it at Griffith and wrinkled his nose, shaking his head. "No big deal dude. Probably wouldn't have helped." he was joking, and proved it with a laugh. He looked at Griffith and cocked his head to the side a little. "Sis got in trouble? What she do?"
He shook his head. "No more book reports, not now anyway. Oh!" He moved across the bed and reached over to his desk before climbing off the bed and holding it out to Griffith. "Here's your book, dude. Thanks for letting me use it."
He smiled a bit when Jeremy laughed, thinking that no one would really know if that was the truth or not. The paper was done and marked and in the end he hadn't helped at all. "She got into a fight with Charlie. And then they were pulling pranks on each other throughout the day and ended up getting suspended." But it seemed that all the chaos had died down and Charlie and Claudia seemed to be avoiding each other which was good.
Griffith watched as Jeremy moved and then took the book that the other boy was holding out to him. He looked pleased that it was still in good condition. "No problem." Griffith said softly. "Thank you for looking after it." People could be so careless with books. "So...are you planning on doing anything for march break?" Griffith asked then, attempting to make small talk.
After giving the book to Griffith, Jeremy leaned backwards, resting his elbows on his desk, sort of half standing and looking at Griffith. He laughed a little at the story. "I heard prank wars were going on. Wasn't that with Kyle and Justin too? Something like that? Whatev." He laughed and shrugged.
He thought for a second before looking back at Griffith. "Well I wanted to head back home to see Mom and all my buds in LA but Mom cant afford it so it looks like I'm sticking around here. What about you?"
They were having a war with Clair and Molly." Griffith replied. He heard a lot of gossip and rumours, but that was mostly because the library seemed to be the place where groups of girls when to gossip. Some guys as well. And they talked fairly loudly sometimes. "But these were mean pranks." He wanted to say that Charlie attacked Claudia with his ability but Claudia had told him not to say anything about what had happened. He had voiced out enough as it was.
"It depends on Claudia really." He didn't have enough guts to take the train all by himself back to New York. "But I don't think she wants to go home seeing that our parents were informed of her suspension." Their father could be really strict when it came to these things. "But it's ok if I end up staying here. Free food and lots of books at the library."
"Yeah I guess." Jeremy shrugged and glanced around the room, making it pretty obvious that he didn't have any interest in staying at Zener for the vacation. He just sighed a little before looking back at Griffith. "Yeah, it won't be too bad I guess."
"It won't..." Griffith said, looking around the room as Jeremy did. Well he should excuse himself now. He had gotten the answer he was looking for right? And he had made the offer of help Jeremy on his next book report to make up for not helping him on this one. And he had attempted to make small talk. He ran through his mental checklist and wondered if he should make the small talk stretch for a couple of minutes more. It wasn't fair really, wasn't the other person supposed to help keep small talk afloat as well?
"Maybe I can ask my parents to send over Arthur's skateboard and we can go in the Spring." He blurted.
Jeremy looked at Griffith. He was actually surprised by the fact that Griffith stayed this long in his room. He figured he would have showed Griffith the door, in case he forgot but then paused. "Yeah? You skateboard, dude?" He was quite interested now that he learned Griffith skated just like he did. His interest was clearly shown by Jer's board on the floor as well as his older boards which were mounted on the wall. "Yeah dude, that would be awesome. We could skate sometime sooner if you want. Don't have to wait till Spring."
"I...dabble here and there." Griffith replied. "I used to go with my brother when he was in that stage." Arthur had gotten bored of skating pretty quickly though. And that had left Griffith with no one to skate with. He nodded a little. "I don't have my skateboard now though." It was really Arthur's old skateboard. "And I don't want to trouble you or anything..presuming that you'd want to loan me one of yours." See he was babbling. Griffith looked away. "And it's really not safe to skate when there's so much snow."
Jeremy didn't really care about the weather or conditions. After all he could control water. Snow was no trouble at all. He reached under his bed, snatching up one of his older boards before forcing it forward into Griffith's arms but not in a violent way, but in an excited friend like way with a big smile on his face. "Here, take it. We're going skating, sometime soon, you got it dude?" He smiled brightly at Griffith, obviously happy about this.
Griffith fumbled and almost dropped the skateboard on his feet. "Um..ok.." He said, looking at the smile on Jeremy's face. "How about we go skating this Saturday?" Going on a weekend seemed to be a good idea and people were always going out on the weekends. It wasn't as if Griffith had anything to do except read. He had finished his all his homework a while ago. And if the teachers gave them some more on Friday he would get it done before Saturday. "Thanks for wanting to hang out with me." He said then. "I'm really not the most...fun person around here."
Jer smiled and nodded. "Yeah sure dude, any time." He grinned, obviously very excited to have someone to hang out with, and better yet, someone who was a bit nicer than Isaiah and he would certainly enjoy being with. "We can go down to the park and I'll get rid of all the snow, so no worries man." He laughed a little, reaching out and giving Griffith a pat on the shoulder. "Dude, whatever, don't say that. You're fun."
And that was when another worry popped into his head. Griffith hoped that they wouldn't get into any trouble flaunting psychic powers around. He read the papers though it seemed that most of the residents here were in two minds about psychics. Maybe he should wait to worry about that when they were actually at the skate park? He didn't want to make Jeremy unhappy...not when he was smiling that that. Griffith jumped a little as the other boy patted him on the shoulder and shook his head. "I'm glad you think so." Was his reply and then he looked at the door. "Well..I should go." Jeremy was probably busy, too busy to stand around talking to him. "I'll see you on Saturday then. In the afternoon?"
