Who: Felix and homeless guy. When: After work Where: Shoe store What: Felix being Felix. Done in part because Emmy wanted to play a homeless guy :P
The talk was about aliens and Felix was listening with rapt attention. He had even forgotten about the coffee in his hand! But then again, it didn't take much for Felix to forget about anything really. The story was about the destruction of some far off planet in the far off reaches of another galaxy and it held him in awe for the time being. Though...things sounded a bit like the plotline of Star Wars (without cute Ewoks!) and the names of people and places kept changing at random. But it really was a good story!
And not some ramblings of some unhinged dude. Really.
The homeless guy, he had insisted that Felix called him Sir, finished up his coffee and smiled at the young man. It would have been a toothy grin except for the fact that what he had in his mouth could hardly be called teeth anymore. He still had his tongue though, obviously, and ended the story abruptly by saying, "What about those shoes?!"
Felix blinked, suprised because Sir had just yelled and because he had been paying so much attention to the story that it was hard to shift his thoughts to something else. A look of disappointment crossed his face. He really did want to know what had happened to the Princess.
"Oh! Those shoes!" Here a smile slid it's way across Felix's features. "Since you can't remember where you put them...we can get you a new pair!" He was so happy that Mr Miles had given him this idea. Felix fiddled with the bag of baegles in his hand. "I think the thrift shop is that way!"
The look that Sir gave him at his suggestion though made the smile on Felix's face wilt. The older, bearded man puffed up, which, seeing that he was all in layers made him seem bigger then he really was. "You can't expect me to walk all the way with one shoe on!" There was more yelling and Felix tried to duck out of the way of spittle in the most polite way possible. "I know a better place! Come!" It was a wonder how homeless, crazy people did imperiousness better then any actor on television. Felix was left hurrying along as the older man marched, foil hat bobbing along, into a shoe store that was relatively nearer but not some place where anybody would call 'thrift'.
He even banged the door as he entered. The salsepeople did not look impressed.
"This...could probably work too.." Felix said after a brief pause. Who would have thought that shoes could be look really intimidating. They looked that way now...all in shiny rows. Kinda like army troops. Wasn't there clone army troops in Sir's story? Speaking of which the man had gone up to a display and was snatching a pair of shoes up. The salespeople twittered like a pack of angry chickens.
Felix hurried over. "I'm sorry...I'm sorry...He's with me." That didn't seem to impress them either. He tried to take a look at the price tag and almost got his fingers stomped on. Sir was already putting his shoes on...Felix couldn't really blame him for being excited. And then the man was yelling about wanting them and trying to get out of the store. And the salespeople were yelling about stopping him and Felix hurried to pay before all of this became an unplesant memory.
Only...those shoes cost more then shoes really ought to be priced at. He looked at his wallet, or rather the impassive and mouthless face of Hello Kitty and then back at Sir. And then at the angry salespeople. As usually happened in these instances, an image flashed in Felix's head. It was a not so random image and one of a note which his brother used to leave for him.
Dear FiFi. You've just been conned."
He wasn't stupid, just distracted a lot of the time, and knew that he could probably explain his way out of this and walk away. But Sir was looking happy, smiling as he was under all that beard, and Felix didn't want any unpleasant memories. Besides, he had already set aside money for rent. And if he only ate small portions. He'd probably forget to eat anyway! The month would just zip right past and it'd be pay day again.
Felix paid up. And then gave the bagels to Sir as well. Oh he wouldn't be talking to this one anymore but he almost always bought the man food and it felt wrong to go without giving him goodbye baegals.
"Here." Felix said simply as he sat the bag down next to the man. Let the salespeople deal with him. He found himself oddly wishing he could find out what happened to the Princess in the story. But...Felix got distracted by maybe ten other things on the way home.
