Alex watched Kitty carefully after he heard that note of sadness in her voice. It troubled him that someone so young with the whole world at her feet could be limited just by what was effectively her birthright. She was meant to be a mutant, just like they all were. Alex didn't resent his powers; they made him who he was. Just like hers made her who she was; Shadowcat.
"You know how to control your powers better than a lot of people your age," he said softly, the look in his eyes genuine. "There's no reason in the world you shouldn't go out and do exactly what you want to, without fear. We're different from the homo sapiens, yes, but not in a bad way. We have everything they have and more."
Alex wasn't as strong a believer in mutant superiority as, say, Magneto but he did share some of the ideals of the Brotherhood. As far as he was concerned, as far as he had always been concerned, mutants really had the better end of the deal. Homo sapien hostility towards mutants wasn't just out of fear, although that did play a big part of it. It was out of jealousy too.
