Upper West Side, Manhattan | The Himalyas

Billy ran as fast as his feet could carry him, his shoes slamming against the pavement, joining a symphony of several other soles. The young man could hear his heart pounding in his ears and the words of the others…

“COME ON FAIRY BOY!”
“YEA, FAG, THE COCKS ARE OVER HERE!”
“HEY HOMO, COME AND SUCK IT!”

Every day he lived his life in fear and perhaps today was the day it all ended. He earnestly felt whole-hearted fear for his life. These boys were so much older, so much larger and so full of hate. As he turned a corner swiftly, sliding on the rain-dampened ground, he and finally managed to look back. Four. Four of them. There was no way he could possibly take them all. Why did high-school have to be this way? What made him so different? Didn’t the same blood pump through his veins?

He hadn’t been paying attention to where he was going and as soon as he turned back around, Billy found himself down a dark alleyway filled with trash cans. His feet were moving faster than reflex response could stop them and just as he was facing forward again, he toppled right over a metal trash can that had been laying on it’s side. If only he’d noticed it ahead of time. If only the other boys weren't so close behind.

Rolling over into the side of a red brick wall, Billy slammed his head. Immediately blood began to trickle down from his hairline and he dizzily as he tried to stand, only to fall over once more into the garbage. He groaned as laughter filled his ears. He looked up at his pursuers and trembled. It wasn’t long before he was covered in kicks and punches. With each devastating blow, Billy cried out. He whispered. “I want to be far, far away. I want to be far, far away. I want to be far, far away….”

"That's right queer! You love to take it in the mouth don't you?"

These were the last words he heard before everything suddenly stopped. Billy was no longer being hit with fists or sneakers. Instead, everything became cold, very, very cold. When he opened his eyes again, he was surrounded by an untouched blanket of snow, distant mountains... what happened? Did he pass out? Did he die? What was going on?
