Who: Rogue and Shadowcat.
When: Friday, April 4, 2008; (Noon-ish)
Where: The Library.
What: Has Kitty heard about Rogue and Bobby's secret meeting, or hasn't she? Well, Rogue's about to find out!
Status: COMPLETE.
Rating: PG-13, just to be safe.

Three days.

It had been three days since she and Bobby had their first talk. And to say what had been said between them didn't stir something within her would be, to say the least, a vast understatement.

Bobby had kissed her.

He had kissed her and he told her that he loved her.

Rogue still wasn't quite sure how to handle it, the knowledge that he still cared very deeply for her... that he wanted to be with her again.

He wanted her and not Kitty. Some part of Rogue was practically screaming with glee at the very thought, but she still hadn't come to terms with the Iceman's apparent betrayal of her trust.

Though, had Bobby really cheated on her? No. No he hadn't, but when she first saw Bobby and Kitty looking at each other during that Danger Room exercise, she was hit with the realization that Bobby might have wanted something more. Something Rogue was incapable of giving to him. That made her feel horribly insecure and jealous. Envious that she couldn't give him that, but Kitty could.

Rogue still had a bitter case of sour grapes about that fact, but she tried to do her very best to conceal it.

However, she was still left with a very hard decision to make: "forgive" Bobby or end it for good?

As Marie sat at one of the tables in the library, she stared unseeingly at the upturned book that sat in front of her. She had come to the library in hopes that she'd be able to get her mind off of her current problem, but even the enchanting words of J.K. Rowling couldn't distract her.

"We're not really all study all the time," she joked with a half smile. It was true, after all. And it was certainly good to hear Rogue laughing. It was good to hear herself laughing. She really couldn't remember the last time she felt comfortable enough to laugh in any situation. It had just really been that tense and stressful.

She had never really given it the thought until now when things shouldn't have been tense.

At least things seemed to be kicking off pretty well between herself and Rogue. For now anyway. Kitty was hoping it would stay as it was for as long as it could. It was nice to not have to worry about the 'other side' of the mutant population for a while.

But then the awkward silence fell again.

"See anyone else lately?" She held her breath for just a moment, wondering who she would mention, if anyone at all.

Laughter. It was something of a rarity these days. Rogue hardly ever cracked a smile and laughing was almost never done. Things were so grave and serious most of the time that those actions seemed inappropriate; so, Rogue generally tried to keep to herself most of the time.

However, now that she had laughed a little, she actually felt better... like an invisible weight had been lifted off of her chest. She could breathe again. But, as soon as Kitty changed the subject matter, her expression became a bit guarded. Mysterious.

"Oh," she said, "ah've seen a few people... Storm, the Professor." Of course, those encounters had long since passed and she hadn't really been approached by either of them since. She hadn't bothered to go talk to them either.

For a moment, Rogue left those words hanging in the air and let the awkward silence return. But, she found that she couldn't keep the meeting she and Bobby had a secret any longer. She hadn't breathed a word of it to anyone, not even to any of her supposed comrades, the Brotherhood.

"Ah did speak t'Bobby the other night," she admitted aloud and tried to keep from looking too guilty. Though, did she really have anything to feel guilty about?

"Oh?" Kitty seemed to become a bit rigid at the mention of meeting with Bobby. Not that Kitty felt she had to worry about anything. She wasn't really even sure what sort of relationship she had with Bobby, but the mention of Rogue's meeting with him made her tense. She did her best to take in a few deep breaths to try and relax herself hoping Rogue hadn't noticed. She could feel her teeth, that had become slightly clenched, relaxing, and she began to unwind.

"How'd that go? I know it must have been good to see him." She did her best to retain a friendly air about her during the conversation. Kitty wasn't jealous. She wasn't the jealous type. Besides, Bobby and Rogue's past started long before she waltzed in to their friendship.

Okay. Maybe she was a little jealous.

Well, she found out that Bobby hadn't spoken with Kitty yet. Great. But, she wasn't going to go into the details of hers and Bobby's conversation. The last thing she needed right now was more trouble, so she'd keep her mouth shut. "Awkward," she admitted, grinning sheepishly. "Really, really awkward. But, ah guess that's ta be expected, ya know?"

Rogue and Bobby didn't exactly part on amicable terms, but it hadn't been explosive either. It was just very hard to explain how their break up came about and Rogue would've liked to forget it completely.... Breaking up was hard to do, after all.

"Ah take it he didn't tell ya about it, huh?"

While Kitty didn't look openly upset or hostile, Rogue could tell it was bothering her to know she had spoken alone with Bobby. And if the situation was reversed, she would've felt the same way... she had felt the same way. Jealousy was an ugly thing.

Kitty shook her head, shrugging. "Nah. He doesn't have to tell me everything." Kitty waved a hand, doing her best to simply let it roll off. It wasn't any of her business. If either wanted her to know, then they would tell her. That was that. Kitty didn't go snooping around in anyone else's business.

She found a book on one of the shelves interesting for a moment, pulling it from it's place. She gave it a once over, running her fingers against the binding before putting it back.

"Was it, at least, a good talk, though? I mean, I'm sure it was! I'm sure he misses you." She treaded lightly, talking in a light-hearted tone as much as possible.

Kitty's question made Rogue pause for a moment, before she went onto answering it, "It was... ah don't know,; it was okay."

Okay, maybe it wasn't 'okay,' but she really didn't feel like talking about it that much. It was weird, tense, and awkward. She could've said that, but that might warrant an explanation.

"We just caught up," she with a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders, while she tugged a white piece of hair behind her ear. That was partially true, but there were some pretty important details she withholding. But, she was doing a pretty good job being casual about it.

"Ah just thought he might've mentioned it to you by now."

With that thought in mind, Rogue was beginning to think the Iceman was playing some kind of game with both of them. If that was the case, he was going to be in for a very rude awakening.

"No, but it's fine. Everyone's been busy doing their own thing. It's okay." Which it really was. Kitty didn't have any qualms about a meeting or a talk. She'd probably end up mentioning to Bobby that she talked to Rogue and had heard about how they got together, but that would be that. She'd simply see how Bobby handled the situation from there. Kitty could be naive sometimes, but she wasn't dumb.

"Hey!" She perked up a bit, a smile on her face. "Want to play a quick game of chess?" She hadn't played that in a while, and while she was sure Rogue could think of ten different things she could be doing, she thought she'd throw that out there.

It was something to do to give them time together, but didn't require a lot of talking, which both seemed to find a bit difficult right now. She really hated the awkward silence.

"I think there's a set over there," she said, pointing down the library a bit to one of the study areas.

"Chess?" she repeated, a dark eyebrow quirking upward at the suggestion. Rogue had only played a couple times before, and to be honest, she wasn't all that great at the game. She was more of a foosball type of person herself.

"Sure," she said, eventually. Well, there was no time like the present to bone up on her Chess playing skills. Though, she wasn't sure there were any improvements to be had.

"Ah have ta warn ya, though..." she began, a hint of laughter in her voice, "Ah ain't any good."

She was doing her best to keep up a jovial front, which wasn't all that hard all things considered. Perhaps this wouldn't end so tragically, after all?

[ OOC: I figure we can end it here, since Chess games aren't always that entertaining to play out. xD Though, we can continue if you have more things to add. ]
