Who: Silver and Mars
When: September 7th
Where: Xavier's; Gym
What: Learning to be a useful part of the team
Status: Complete
Rating: PG-13

Diana felt nervous as she headed for the gym. She had finally decided to join the x-men. How they had decided where to place her was a mystery to her, given that she tried to avoid over half of her new team most of the time. While she felt pretty good about her powers, she knew she had one main fault. She could run, but she didn't really know how to fight. So Emma in her infinite wisdom, the witch, had determined that Diana was going to learn that from her teammates. Mars was first in the rotation... lucky her. She entered the room, dressed in some comfortable sweat pants, a sports bra and tank top. Her hair was braided and tied back in a pony tail. She nervously gnawed on her thumb as she looked around for Mars.

Mars stepped into the gym, and caught sight of his new teammate. Damn it, Emma. Why couldn't ye have Wolverine do this shit? Well, at least the girl had finally chosen to be an X-Man. A choice that had slightly surprised him as she seemed to be attached at the hip to Boom Boom most of the time. He had chosen not to change into work out wear, as he despised it. He gave her the once over as he approached her. He should have made her change into her uniform for a little extra challenge. Moving quickly in full leather gear wasn’t an easy task if one wasn’t used to it. When Ronan reached the girl he gestured for her to step onto the large mat that covered most of the area. “First off, do ye know anythin' about fightin'?" Street, karate classes, whatever.

Diana stopped worrying her fingers when Mars showed up. She wiped them against her pant leg and tried to calm down the heavy pounding of her heart. Oh damn, he so didn't look happy to be stuck her training her. Well, then again when DID the man ever look happy? Maybe when he was hanging with his wife? She shook her head. "Not really. I took a self defense class at the Y once. Mostly I just ran from trouble." She didn't consider the untrained and frantic hit anything with anything at hand method she used when she couldn't run counted as fighting. Nor did she consider the school yard fights where she essentially tackled people and went for the throat 'fighting' either

He nodded absently at Silver's response. Ronan sometimes wondered why he even asked that question as most of them always said no. "Right." He stepped onto the mat (after he slipping off his shoes). He personally thought training without shoes (mat or no mat) was ridiculous as most fights one got into (martial arts moves involved or not) typically weren't done with shoeless. "Okay," he said as he moved in front of the girl. He took a stance and his blue eyes locked with hers. "Come at me."

Diana took a deep breath and tried to think about what to do. She really had never struck someone first. She knew she personally was disgusted with the sissy waving of hands that lead to girly slap fests most girls she knew attacked with. She also knew with certainty that Mars could easily deflect or defend against any attack she might make, and that it could hurt. Attacking when you knew you would loose was hard.

Her hands opened and closed. She glanced quickly around the room. She wished she had something in her hands or at least some decent boots on her feet. She felt like she was entirely too soft. She didn't have anything hard to hit with at all. Without shoes it was pretty pointless to kick him, and she didn't know how to form a proper fist.

She huffed. This would be so much easier if he was attacking her, and she just had to react instead of trying to figure out how to attack him. Standing here wasn't going to get anything done. She stepped forward and threw a very sloppy punch towards his gut. She was pretty sure that was one of the places they had said was good to hit. That and the obvious weak spot which she didn't feel brave enough to go for. Oh, and there was the eyes or that spot behind the ear.

Ronan had anticipated what Silver would do. Of course, the stomach was the place most females went for it seemed (besides the balls). It was also easily handled. When the girl charged him, he thought for a split second of going easy on her... only for second. When Diana reached him and threw her fist out, he gripped her wrist in his left hand and pulled her towards him, so he could wrap his right arm around her neck, putting her in a headlock. He released Silver's wrist and brought his hand to the back of her neck and squeezed the pressure points on the sides of her small neck with his fingers. It took a few moments, but the fair-haired girl finally stopped struggling and went limp. He laid her gently on the mat, looking down at her unconscious form. She would wake up in a short while (with a slight headache, no doubt).

Ronan pulled the pack of cigarettes out of his back pocket, tapped the bottom twice, and retrieved one. He lit the rolled tobacco and took a drag. After exhaling unceremoniously, "Lesson one: Never come at me."

It was very quick. One moment she was doing a somewhat tenative hit, and the next he had a vice-like grip on her wrist. Before she could even try to escape the hold, she was placed into the headlock. And before she could try to get out of the she lost consciousness. She was quite out of it when Ronan said his first lesson.

After a little bit she groaned and moved. Diana put her hand to her head. It was throbbing a bit. Also, her neck felt bruised. She took a few deep breaths and tried to get a handle on how she felt. Embarrassed, terribly and deeply, a bit angry (big surprise there) and frustrated. She KNEW she was no match for Ronan, she didn't claim to be. Still, she wanted to learn. She HATED that it had been so easy to take her down, no matter who the guy who did it was.

"So," She said as she somewhat wobbily stood up. "Now that you know exactly how pathetic my skills are, are we going to keep playing naptime for Diana or are you going to show me how to do things RIGHT?" She wasn't going to quit, no matter what the answer. That was for DAMN certain.

Mars watched Silver for a moment. The girl had balls he had to admit. Most would've been running off in tears by now. She'd seemed a little lost before she'd attacked (despite the fact that she had no idea what she was doing). Diana seemed the type to need a weapon in her hands to get the job done right. Easy enough.

Without a word, Mars moved from his place on the mat to where the set of free weights stood against one wall. He picked up two of the bars (sans weights, of course) and walked back towards Diana where he then placed one of them in her hand. A staff (though the current one not proper one... he would remedy that later) may not have been her weapon of choice, but they would see how she faired. She could always test other weapons later to find what suited her best. He stepped back into position across from her, where he held the staff with both hands in front of him. "Now that ye've got a weapon, come at me again."

She bit her lip and clenched her fists when he just turned from her. Diana was about to really loose her temper when she realized he wasn't leaving. She hefted the improvised staff trying different hand holds until she got one she was comfortable with. It wasn't all that heavy really, maybe about five pounds total. She glanced over at Mars. It would still hurt if it hit, but she would just have to try and not let that happen. Though she figured the likelihood of not getting hit if he really wanted to was pretty low. It looked like they were playing lets beat up Diana tonight. Though if she was fair about it, she could recognize that he was trying to figure how good she was at different things. It was just that she didn't feel like being fair very often.

Diana wasn't quite as comfortable with the staff as she would be if it was split in two. Without any training the staff had a little less flexibility in movement than she might have liked. Still she DID feel a lot better with SOMETHING in her hands. She didn't pause anywhere nearly as long as she did before her first attack. She jerked the upper left part of the staff before actually attacking him with the lower right part swinging at him at about knee height. Being right handed, she felt far more comfortable attacking with that side.

Ugh! "Don't go for the knee! Swing for the back of the neck!" Alison half-complained, half-cheered. "Then you can swindle his clothes." The bastard. She'd had her own 'training' sessions with Mars as of late. He was a bloody wreck of a man, wasn't he? Yes he was. She smirked to herself at her mimicky train of thought and moved further into the gym. "So, Hellions, mind if I sit in?" Her gymwear was already slung on (however haphazardly). Dazzler would've been content to watch the grumpy Mick school the grumpy non-Mick all day, however. Girl had a serious attitude problem. These two were meant to torture each other.

Alison grinned at that and moved to stand just off of the side of the mat. It smelled like smoke in the gym - cigarette smoke. Jesus Christ. "Did you light up in here?" she gave a sniff. Smokers were so dumb. But Mars was pretty, so she could overlook it.

Mars side-stepped Diana's attack and swung his own makeshift staff downward so it clanged against hers, blocking the hit. She obviously wasn't comfortable with that sort of weapon either. Of course she had no proper training with any weapon, but that's what they were there for wasn't it? The rock star had walked in and made herself comfortable. Good. That would give him time to think more on Diana's ideal weaponry. Staves obviously weren't going to cut it with the blonde girl. "I probably shouldn'ta had ye start out with a weapon so soon, but now that I have, I've got ta find the right one for ye." He set the end of the staff on the floor and leaned on it slightly, watching Silver. "Alison." He refused to use her codename (when they weren't in battle, anyway). He wasn't fond of it, but the girl behind it was amusing. If she was going to watch the lesson, she could also help with it. "If yer gonna sit there gawkin' ye can give Diana here some more helpful tips." Alison knew her shit. And seeing as the two girls were teammates, it made sense for them to help each other out with training. "And yeah I did, but I only had one." he answered Dazzler's second inquiry. Insert smirk and wink here.

Great, she had 'help'. If that what you could call the yelling from the peanut gallery. Diana didn't really know Alison very well. An easy enough thing to happen in a school with this many people in it. It wasn't like they did any of the same things. Though at least it wasn't a teammate that she disliked or purposely avoided... at least not yet.

Diana expected him to be able to block and was just glad that he didn't try to hit her back. She put her own staff down before she gave into the urge to twirl it. She shrugged as she leaned on it. "Ok." Whatever. This was kind of his time to do whatever he thought necessary to get her in fighting trim.

Well at least Alison didn't care for cigarette smoke anymore than she did. That was cool. So many of the guys here smoked... even Troy did sometimes. She could tell, could smell it on him tainting that nice smell of water that always meant Troy to her. But she wasn't here to bemoan the bad habits of her teammates or friends. "So, what's next?" She was looking to both Dazzler and Mars now since he made it clear that Alison was going to be involved somehow now.

"One puff closer to the sweet comfort of the grave," Alison responded to Mars' final statement as she moved forward (which was a response to his request that she not 'gawk'). She eyed Diana. The young thing wasn't much to look at, by way of style at any rate. She knew the kid was a bit of a bitch, though. Who could blame her? Sabretooth as a father and her best friends were a Brotherhooder and Troy? She never even had a chance.

"I dunno what was before," Dazzler reasoned, "so I don't know what's next." She winked at the girl. Her eyes shifted to Mars as well and she moved forward, snatched his staff and without skipping a beat, slung it around, aiming for Diana's head. Her leg went out behind her, still facing Ronan. "Uhhh-yuh!" It twirled in the air over her own head and angled down with great speed. If she knocked the kid out, she could at least get her half hour of treadmill time in.

A true Hellion. The Irishman thought of Alison, taking a step back when she stepped forward and took the staff from him then swung it at Diana. He was pleased that she wasn't holding back as he was wont to do with the younger ones (as hard as it was sometimes). He'd have to say something to Dazzler by default, though. It usually wasn't smiled upon when those who knew what they were doing showed no mercy on those who didn't, but in Ronan's mind, one couldn't be fair all the time. His blue eyes watched Diana, hoping she would react in an interesting way. Wouldn't be any fun having her be knocked out again, now would it? If she did, it would most likely involve a trip to the infirmary... he wasn't getting harped at again about students getting injured during training while he was involved. He argued that they were never hurt very severely, but was usually given a frown in response by one of the doctors (or whoever else was in there).

Diana chuckled a bit at Alison's response. She could appreciate the barb. While she knew smoking wouldn't hurt Creed or Logan, she didn't understand how others in the mansion could do that to themselves. They were all very healthy people otherwise.

Then Dazzler swung the staff at her. Silver reacted, and far quicker than she did when she was attacking. Of course she also let out a short surprised and high squeak. She twisted to the side, pulling her own staff up off the ground and closer to her body. It barely missed her, swiping the air in front of her. And then Diana felt herself getting just a wee bit angry.

That could have actually hurt really bad. While she had accepted that idea with Mars, just hadn't signed up for little miss music to be allowed to do the same. Especially given Diana hadn't even been ready for that. She adjusted her grip and swung the staff at Dazzlers midsection, stepping in and only using two-thirds of the staff's length.

Oh hell no! Al had worked far too hard on her sixpack to let this little trollop bruise her up. Before Silver took the swing, Alison was dropping to her knees. In the same fluid motion she had taken to swing at Diana's head, the staff remained twirling and once she was closer to the ground, her grip tightened and she bowed back. The metal connected with the back of Diana's knees and Alison swung out of the attacking staff's reach. She expected to hear a thud. The pink-haired woman sprang back up to her feet, crouching, then stood erect and moved to the side of Mars. Whether or not Silver's attacks continued, she was getting clear. Untrained people with heavy, metal objects didn't make her feel comfortable.

He fought a smirk as Dazzler dropped to the floor to knock Diana's feet out from under her. Ronan had moved back a few feet during the attack, not wanting to have to move quickly if either of the staves came near him. He sure as hell wasn't getting hit. Mars gave Alison an approving nod when she ended up beside him. "Try not ta break any bones or bruise her too badly." he said quietly, but with an obvious trace of amusement. Silver was going in the Danger Room next (in full gear) and he couldn't have her incapacitated.

Dazzler got the thud she was expecting. Diana hadn't been able to move quick enough. So she fell on her arse and rolled away so she was out of reach. She felt herself getting angry. Just a bit. Looked like ti was beat on Diana without showing her what to do time. With Mars she had wanted to flee, knowing his skill was so far above hers. Not knowing Dazzler very well, she was more tempted to fight back, since she felt like there might be some chance to succeed.

Then she HEARD what Mars said. She didn't think she was supposed to have heard it, but she did. That flared her temper and Diana got up and stalked towards Dazzler. When she got close she swung her staff as hard as she could. She used it like a bat and tried to knock Dazzler's own weapon away, and trying to get in close for some rough and tumble fighting.

"Is this fair, chief?" Alison asked the amused-looking Irishman. The girl had barely been trained to teleport, let alone defend herself. But if Dazzler remembered correctly, she'd heard 'Silver' wandering about talking shit on how 'street' she was. Dazz would show her street. When the whelp could knock a fifty off a roadie without touching the bum, then she'd be street. Or a high-class ho, Alison wasn't quite sure. She didn't have much time to debate before the pissed off mutant was coming at her like Albert Pujols. "Shit!" She was standing next to Mars, and the swing Diana was taking would most likely cause them both to duck. She crouched again, and held her weapon vertically, hearing a clang of Diana's staff against the top of her own. The vibrations were so hard they stung Al's hands.

She wanted to swear. And be on her treadmill. Fuck this.

"C'mon, then!" she dropped her staff, displaying a large, figurative set of cojones. If the kid kept swinging, Alison could wind up under Joe's watch. But it might earn Diana a rubber bullet in the back of the knee, and that thought made it all worth it. She raised her hands and took a sturdy stance, ready to kick at the other girl's head.

No. It wasn't fair. Mars ducked when Silver swung the staff at Alison. The blonde girl was letting her emotions get the better of her already and this was only her first lesson. He wasn't having it. He moved forward and yanked the bar out of Silver's hands, stopping her in mid-swing. He leaned forward so his face was inches from hers. "That's enough." his voice was low, but no less stern. He stepped back, staff still in hand and stood next to Dazzler once more. If Diana didn't learn to control that temper of hers, well, he wasn't going to train her. Teammate or not. Alison hadn't done anything to be responsible for provoking her temper. "Ye," he pointed to Silver, "need ta learn how ta control that temperament o' yers. I think ye need ta talk ta someone. Storm, the Quiet... Edana, Emma... I don' give a shit." He'd drag her to one of them himself if he had to. He wouldn't work with her if she was going to keep that shit up. "Ye need ta learn some respect." He didn't mean him, necessarily, just anyone.

Dazzler had overheard Diana talking about her time being on the street when she had been complaining to Troy once. However when she had said that she could take care of herself and had for over a year, she had meant she knew how to survive. As someone who hadn't been in a gang, that had meant being able to find food, a safe place to stay and knowing how to stay out of trouble. It didn't include fighting and she didn't mean it at all that way.

This whole situation was pissing her off a lot. When Mars took her staff she rocked back on her heels and clenched her hands in fists. Her jaw was tight and her tongue pressed against her teeth. Her whole body was tense and taunt. She closed her eyes for a moment to take a breath and try to calm herself. It didn't help much. She just keep thinking about what had happened.

From her point of view she had been given absolutely no instruction and left to fend for herself. There was no explanation about what to do, what they were trying to do, what they were going to do. Just two people having fun of the new kid and kicking her around like a rag doll. The one time she might actually get the upper hand she's stopped and scolded. This wasn't training... this was taunting.

Her back was really riled at the mention of needing to talk to someone. Like some fucking shrink could help. They never could in the past. Just say, yes it was the other people's fault but SHE was the one who had to change. SHE was always the one to be punished. It hurt. Things just never seemed to go right for her. No one wanted to accept her as she was. (Other than Troy and Tabs but she was a bit into her own rant to remember that.) And whenever she was frustrated or hurt she converted it to anger. Anger was powerful, crying was letting THEM win and damn if she was going to let the undefined THEM win. She was only momentarily distracted by wondering who the Quiet was supposed to be.

Her eyes opened and she just felt so bloody angry. That FUCKING BASTARD. RESPECT? He was lecturing HER about respect? She respected people who damn well fucking deserved it. Her normal fear of Mars disappeared and she stepped in to yell. "Maybe I'd show some fucking respect if this whole thing wasn't laugh at Diana day for you fucking jokers. Maybe I wouldn't be so god damn fucking angry if you would bother to do more than just throw things at me and laugh when I don't know how to swim." She added sarcastically. "So sorry that I don't like people treating me like shit." Then she finally added. "AND I AM CONTROLLING MY DAMN FUCKING TEMPER!"

To her she was. When she had been younger she would have attacked already. Since she had been aiming for Allison's staff, not Allison. She put up with hearing everyone say shit behind her back all the bloody time. But she was tense as a bow string. Her entire body language said she wanted nothing more than to rip someone apart. Oh yes, she WANTED to hurt physically as she had been hurt emotionally.

By the time Silver got to 'fucking jokers', Alison was ready to turn and walk away. She wasn't going to be there for Mars' reaction. Then again...

Throw things at her and laugh when she sank? Is that what she thought they were doing? Mars had been trying to test the waters (she supposed). You can't train anyone if you don't know what's in their heads. And apparently, he wasn't going to train her unless she saned up a little bit. Hah! That was rich. The man was off his fucking rocker. But at least he hadn't ever come at her head with a weight bar like a ball bat. Was she done yelling 'fucking' and 'damn' yet? "Not really..." Alison said at last under her breath, both feeling the need to 'defend herself' against the manic tripe and to get a word in before Ronan exploded, which she anticipated by removing herself from his side and taking a step backward. She bent slowly and removed the staff from amongst their feet, then held it in her hands horizontally, wanting to ensure that no one tripped and that she was just as armed as Mars.

Oh, really now? It sure looked as though Diana was not controlling her temper. He watched, stony-faced, as the blonde girl threw her tantrum. He hadn't once raised his voice to her and she was screaming at the top of her lungs at him. Like a child. He didn't have time for this shit. Mars glanced over at Dazzler. He felt somewhat guilty about getting her tangled up in this wreck, not that Diana was venting her frustrations on the pinkish haired lass. He'd almost wished she had, however. Dazzler wouldn't have gone easy on her. Without a second thought, Mars reached forward and grabbed Diana's wrist in a vice-like grip and pulled her towards him, then bent down to wrap an arm around the backs of her knees and he lifted her and threw her carelessly over his shoulder, then held her legs to keep her there. He turned to Dazzler, "Don' go anywhere. I've got to take care of this." he gestured to Diana before he headed for the exit (towards the locker room).

She growled when he grabbed ahold of her. Unlike the last time when she had been trying to think of a way to get out, this time she just struck at him. Diana wasn't 'in' right now. She tried to claw at him but biting one's nails kind of made that pointless. This was what she considered loosing her temper and she just wanted to hurt him. Mars threw a squirming pile of arms and legs over his shoulder. Her elbow flew into the back of his head.

"Ronan?" Alison finally spoke. He was halfway toward the locker rooms with the teenager over his shoulder. Diana looked both terrified and enraged. Hah. A girl after her own heart. The kid had spunk, at least. She awaited Mars' response (both to using his first name and to interrupting at all) while witnessing Silver's shot to the back of his head. Yeah. "You're both wrong!" if it was any consolation. Probably not. They were sparring out some epic battle that she was now no part of.

Her feet were firmly planted, however. She knew when it was a good time to piss of a 'superior' and when it wasn't. Sigh. Well, he looked pissed beyond reason. And not the good kind. She didn't speak again. But she had a good scream ready in her throat if either of them needed a good knocking down.

It was difficult to not throw Silver to the floor when her elbow smacked into the back of his head. Instead, Ronan brought his right hand up to deliver a solid whack to her squirming backside. Probably wouldn't help at all (in fact, it more than likely made it worse), but it made him feel a whole lot better. When Alison spoke his name, he ignored Diana's struggles and turned around to face the rockstar. She never used his first name. For her to do so meant she feared for Silver. If only her assumptions were correct... "I'm not gonna hurt her." he explained patiently. As much as I would love to. "I'm just gonna cool her down a bit." Tight smirk. "Ye're welcome ta come along if ye'd like." Either way, he wasn't putting Diana down until he did what he intended. With one last look at Dazzler, Mars turned back around and continued his way to the locker rooms. Alison could stop him if she liked. He was going to speak with Emma after this, anyway. It would only make his (unscheduled) appointment sooner.

When he entered the locker male locker room (there were no other males present) he headed towards the showers. Stopping at the first stall, he easily reached over and turned on the spray (to cold). After a moment or two, he dumped Diana unceremoniously into it, so the water rained down on her. "Now, calm the fuck down." Hopefully that would bring the little harpy to her senses. If not, he supposed he'd deal with her in different fashion.

Silver squirmed and clawed as she was carried and when Mars tried to divest himself of her. Despite the frantic squirming and hitting, she was plopped down in the shower. The cold water shocked her back to her senses. It took a few moments and she was thoroughly soaked by the time her brain fully switched over from attack to think.

She still sat there for a while longer, hugging herself and shivering from both the cold of the shower and the adrenaline crash. She curled up against the wall so that the spray fell in front of her. Hugging her knees she kept her head down and was taking deep breaths. Diana felt ... like crap. She had lost control, acted like a child, went completely nut crazy... and all in front of her future teammates. Cloaked in the water, she felt like crying but was trying not to. She had to get out of here before she started bawling like a baby. Already she was starting to breath in short bursts as she felt more and more upset about how she had acted. She was NOT going to cry in front of them.
