We are Project Sentinel
Who: Open to everyone at the Haven
What: The Sentinels come to the Haven
When: Monday, March 8th, mid-morning [forward dated]
Where: The Haven
Warnings: There will be fighting, likely to result in swearing and violence
The scanners detected the vehicles before they reached the Haven, the visuals being fed to the co-founders of the Xavier Haven caused both men to rush towards each other. Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr met in the hall between their offices, their expressions masks of stark determination. Little had to be said, even without Xavier's gifts allowing them to communicate without words. The Sentinel Squads were moving on the Haven, and they had a few precious minutes before they arrived. Both men all but held their breath as they wordlessly planned.
"I will address them," Charles announced firmly. Even as he spoke Cooper stepped forward to guide his wheelchair towards the entrance. "You are in charge, Erik. Keep them safe."
Lehnsherr nodded and returned to his office with a quick step. He activated both the intercoms and the Haven's speakers, his tone as cold and controlled as the metal he had power over.
"This is Magneto. All X-Men and Acolytes report immediately to the main hall. All units, consider yourselves back in active service regardless of current status. Medical staff, please report to the infirmary and stand by. Everyone else, get into the lower levels or at the least away from windows. This is neither a joke nor a drill. Move quickly, watch out for each other."
Erik grabbed a heavy overcoat and his helmet and sprinted towards the main entry. He did not like the idea of Charles being out there alone against those men. He pointed to the first team member who arrived, his jaw set and eyes serious as they peered from behind the sculpted red metal. "All X-Men and Acolytes should step out and line up beside me, behind Charles. We will present a united front. You are in charge of sending them out. Anyone not on a team is to get to the lower levels, make sure anyone not on a team wishing to "help" knows this."
Magneto turned on his heel with that done and strode out, taking his place a few feet behind Charles, who waited patiently behind the closed gates as the vehicles arrived. Lehnsherr at least took comfort in the fact that he had a decent collection of team members lined up when the Sentinel Soldiers exited their vehicles. They wore body armor, carried weapons of various kinds, and braced themselves behind their vehicle doors, as if expecting an attack. Their helmets had dark, mirrored visors which helped hide their identities and masked their eyes. They moved with clipped, practiced motions and were all around an impressive sight.
"Hello. My name is Charles Xavier, and this is my home and a shelter for those without one. To what do we owe this... visit?" Professor Xavier demanded calmly from his chair, less than impressed with the intimidating show of force at his doorstep. He wore the preternaturally secure expression that was the purview of old money. His face was perfectly pleasant until you looked at the eyes. This was no noveau riche playboy or mogul whose mojitos had been interrupted. There was power in him that had nothing to do with his mutation.
"Project Sentinel, you are ordered to turn over the following mutants who are in violation of the Mutant Registration Act and believed to be taking refuge here:
Archer, Magdalena Yvonne
Charlie Cluster 7
Cabral, Faro
Dahlman, Maya
Foley, Joshua
Lehnsherr, Erik
Howlett, James
O'Connell, Andromeda
Porter, Telford
Russell, Benjamin"
The soldier read off the names with a detached, mechanical crispness. The very first name on the list caused Erik's eyes to darken, a cold anger clear on his features, and this only deepened as other names, including his own, were announced. It took all his control to remain silent and still, to let Charles handle the situation.
Be calm, Xavier thought back at the X-Men and Acolytes behind him. He could sense the anger, the outrage, the fear beneath their stance. It was a powder keg, and one single spark could blow it all up into an unsavory display of violence. It was too soon for direct confrontation, anyway. He turned his attention to the Sentinel spokesperson. He could read that he wasn't the man in charge. Whoever was in charge had some very crude psi-shielding, possibly in his helmet, that made it difficult, but not impossible, for Charles to read him. Thank God for small favors, and for the technology being young, Xavier thought to himself.
"Young man," Charles said, sending the message that he knew this wasn't the person in charge. "I believe we have a misunderstanding. I am a registered mutant and this is my home." He could hear the gasps of shock behind him at this little bit of news, but this was not the time for regrets. He pressed on. "I have no real control over the actions of my guests, but this is indeed private property. I do believe it is within my rights as a law-abiding citizen to hold and secure private property that has been in my family for generations. As for my guests," he added, stressing the word, "I am certain that as soon as they go back to their homes they will get their private affairs in order. Now, if you'll excuse me, this obscene display of force is scaring the younger children."
The movement of one of the mutants making their stand alongside Magneto caused several gun safeties to be clicked off, sites being focused on the X-Men and Acolytes boldly holding their ground.
||OOC: Those taking a stand are free to start fights if they are so inclined, Sentinel Soldiers can be NPC'ed, just keep in mind that there is a wall/gate between those in the Haven and the Sentinels. Sentinels did not use bullets for the first 3-4 minutes of the fight, they started off using items such as riot guns and electroshock weapons, but as the situation escalated, they resorted to riot control grenades, bullets and the Repression Serum. The Repression Serum will take approximately thirty seconds to fully take effect, powers will sharply decline during this time. Its effects remain for half an hour to an hour, depending on the individual.
The team member that Mags put in charge of organizing everyone inside the Haven is up for grabs, speak up if you want your character to be that person.
If anyone was not supposed to be on the list of known non-registered mutants living here, or if they were and I forgot, please let David know and it'll be fixed ASAP. Most of this was written very late at night, so if details were missed, it can be fixed.
Final reminder that Sentinels in this game are not robots as of yet. Right now they are an entirely human force.
UPDATE: After ten minutes, Xavier stepped in and ended the conflict, as can be read here. This is important!
The thread is still open, those who were not online before the Xavier post can still be involved, please simply tag into a sub-thread above the Xavier post and keep the 10 minute window for the fight in mind. Feel free to tag off of Xavier's thread with any reactions if you so desire. Keep in mind that people will be frozen until after the Sentinels leave, then all characters will be free to thread under Xavier's post, his post marks the end of the fight, but there's still plenty to react to. ||
