Who: Elixir and Jean
What: Jean checks on her brother
When: Monday morning
Where: Infirmary
Josh looked down at the seemingly sleeping form of Nate Grey and shook his head sadly. The boy was inert but there was still life inside him. His mind continued to function, he was breathing, consuming food and expelling waste but he wasn't alive. Living but not alive. It was sad to see such a waste of what could have been a great and powerful mind. But sometimes the mind is too powerful for the body or sometimes the mind was too traumatized and things like this happened.
This could've been him. Josh felt a certain empathy Nate because he knew too well this could've been his fate. So he took extra care with Nate. He made sure that his sheets were changed every other day, he took extra care to check Nate's saline drip and made sure to feed him via drip at the same time every day, whether he was there or not. Josh turned Nate to keep him from developing bed sores and every night, whether Josh was on duty or not, he would read for half an hour from newspapers to keep Nate abreast of what was going on in the world. Josh knew he didn't have to do this but at the same time he felt he did. Because this could've been him.
Josh looked up from where he was gathering Nate's limp form in his arms to transfer him over to another bed so he could change his sheets, hearing a noise at the door. "I'll be right with you," he called out grunting softly at Nate's heavy dead weight as he shuffled him over. He knew there was a way to change Nate's sheets without moving him but Josh hadn't figured out how so for right now this was the easiest for him.
