Ric was furious, more than just furious, he was afraid. Very afraid. What the hell was with Star? This was not right. Not at all right. Fights. Anger. A broken nose? What the hell. Just. What. The. Hell. Ric's stomach was in a knot, his lips were pulled down into a sharp, twitching frown as his heart pounded loudly in his ears. He had heard what Shatterstar had done, but he still could hardly believe it. What had changed? How had it changed? The questions were driving him insane, tearing at the back of his brain. One thing he was quite sure of: These were not the actions of the man he had met at the Haven.
Surely Shatterstar had always been... Strange. Odd. Different. He had been robotic at best, downright alien at other times, frustrating and incomprehensible the rest of the time, but he had always had control and honor. Those two things had been so very important to Star. Ric vividly remembered the quiet confessions during their time, wrapped around each other behind closed doors, when Star had whispered his secrets, how Rictor had driven him mad because the little Mexican pulled at Star's self control in ways he had never before experienced. It was that strange man Ric had fallen in love with, and while he did not expect his lover to stay so foreign to the world at large for the rest of his life, this violent, unpredictable man was hardly someone he wanted to tether his life to. So the question remained... what now?
Jaw clenched tightly, Ric sat on the edge of the bed which was about the only place to sit in their sparsely decorated shared room as he waited for Shatterstar to return. The thought of canceling their soon-to-be getaway did cross his mind, it would be easier do so now. Cancel reservations before he even told Star he had made them. But... then what? Find another room? Kick Star out? How did he even go about starting that conversation, and what were the odds that he would reach the end of it without having his nose broken? Slowly, Ric exhaled a breath he was not aware he had been holding. Star would be here any minute, he reminded himself. He just had to try and stay calm. Calm and rational.
Yeah. Right.
