Lorna sipped her tea, trying to figure out a way to bring up the family issue while she watched Scott deal with his breakfast. It was rather admirable, she thought, the way he handled himself having only been partially blind for two years. She supposed a person could get used to anything if they had no choice. She made the decision right then that she would go back to help Forge with that visor for Scott after they were done here. After all, she could bend metal into any shape that was needed without tools, so she might be able to save Forge time in his labors.
"Well, some people are just refugees. Some just need a breather before facing the outside world. Some came seeking asylum when they tried to institute that Mutant Registration madness and never left." She paused, choosing her words. "The Haven is different things to different people, I guess. I'm an X-man, as I said. Most people are residents, and they work around the mansion and the grounds doing whatever they're capable of to help out. Some do construction and repair work, others tend to the gardens and the wooded areas. Some work security, or maintenance. There's the medical staff, some of whom you've met. Scientists tend to their sciences, looking for applications we can use to defend ourselves and others from the outside world." She paused again, taking a deep breath and sipping her tea.
"Myself and others whose powers give us more offensive capabilities, or those who were soldiers or law enforcement before coming here, train in teams and get ready for whatever comes. And sometimes we go out in the field and help or rescue those who didn't find safety in numbers." She then asked a question of her own. "What are your plans, Scott? May I call you Scott? What do you want to do with your freedom?" she went on, stressing the fact that he was now free. "Do you have any family?" she finally worked in.
