Logan blinked once, feeling like he was looking at the girl for the first time after he heard about her mutant ability. He was a creature of the wilderness, of mountain, snow and woods, but he'd seen an angry ocean once or twice, and knew that it was no laughing matter. He found it incredibly noble of Joëlle to have given up paradise to protect it from herself. A new found respect for her colored the way he looked at her now. This was no girl, this young woman. That certainly hadn't been the decision of a child.
"Yeah, not wise at all. Sounds like ya did the right thing, but you already knew that," he said plainly in his trademark chesty rumble. "Me, I got a healing factor, claws and lotsa hair. No, wait... I always had lotsa hair," he deadpanned, faking a confused look for a moment.
He grinned at the sports bit, but it wasn't unkind. He just found it funny. "Nah, not sports. I'm on the X-men team. We're combat trained, sort of a security detail ta make sure the Haven stays safe. Basically, we police our own. We also go out and make sure everyone as wants to come t'the Haven can make it here safely. Trust me, a lotta folks ain't nearly as understanding as your people."
"Used ta be two teams in house. Used t'be a hell of a lot more crowded in here. One of the founders decided to up and leave, and he talked a bunch of us into leaving with him. Claims we're weak for being pacifists, which ain't even true. Xavier, this is his home, believes that unless mutants and humans find ways to live together, nobody wins." He nodded, pursing his lips thoughtfully. "I gotta say I'm with him on that one."
The words mutually assured destruction came to mind, but he kept those to himself. Not wanting to get too serious on the new girl, Logan snorted and chuckled. "I gotta tell ya, nobody ever accused me of being a pacifist before." He grinned at Joëlle, a lopsided affair. Oh, Logan could have his own brand of crude charm where there was a pretty girl involved.
"But ta answer your question, everybody does what they can. Folks whose powers can be used offensively are welcome to try out for the teams... team," he corrected himself with a headshake. Just the one team now. The public one, anyway. "Those who won't or can't fight, they use their time and talents ta earn their keep." He grinned at Joëlle widely now. "I'm sure I ain't gonna hear any complaining if you decide ta cook, but you sure don't have to. Some people help maintain the grounds, man the security stations, help out with construction. We're pretty self-sustained here, so whatever ya did out there in the world can probably be put to use here too."
