Who: Joëlle, OTA
What: Settling in
When: Wednesday morning
Where: Haven Kitchen
Joëlle had been surprised by her first few hours on American soil. Showing up at the gate just after one a.m., she had been brought to Professor Xavier. He seemed a kind man even though her arrival did wake him, they had a long talk about why she was seeking refuge at Haven and what her life would be like while living in the mansion. He, of course, allowed her to stay and urged her to apply for American citizenship if she truly intended to stay for any length of time. She was then shown to a room that was to be hers and was informed that she would be shown about the mansion and the grounds by another resident in the morning. But not long after she climbed into bed she discovered she could not sleep.
She sat up for a while, taking stock of the room, but her curiosity was too great to allow her to merely sit there and wait for morning. A little after four she made her way out of her room and being as quiet as she could had a look about every bit of the mansion that was open to her.
Around the time her stomach began to rumble she found her way into the kitchen. It was well stocked and it had many of the tools and appliances her parents had kept in the resort kitchens when she was a little girl. Seeing such familiar things made her long for her family and the simpler times of childhood and the only way she could think to cure it was to cook up one of her father's favorite dishes, Eggs A’ La Caneel. While she hollowed out the tomatoes and heated the oil in the pans she had been completely alone in the kitchen but when it came time to sauté the onions and ham and the smell became quite enticing she was joined by several, sleepy but hungry residents. They greeted her with dosey smiles and introductions though she knew their eyes kept going to what she was preparing. She wasn't used to an audience while she cooked, it caused her to come close to burning the hollandaise sauce, but she managed to save it.
When the stuffed tomatoes came out of the oven she covered them with the sauce and served them to her audience, barely managing to save one for herself.
