Dan kept hearing the soft echoes of thoughts about family but chose not to push any further into it. What he had picked up about her world was enough prying for his liking. Coming from an expanse of his Shine to this new town and likely new dimension had his ability to shut out his Shine on the fritz. He had been ready to seamlessly enter into Rose the Hat's mind and take her to a place that few were safe inside. He had been preparing for a fight in the one place that held the most sorrow and pain for him. While he was not going to explain that to Adrienne, he felt it justified the peeks into her mind he was having and would apologize for nonetheless.
Stepping back toward his door, he opened it and gestured for her to come inside. The decorations and furnishing of the apartment were not nearly what Dan would have gone for, but in the eight years in New Hampshire, he had barely changed the room he rented. He had a hard time personalizing a space and he had only been there for maybe half a day. It would be like moving, where things never truly get fully unpacked and half-empty boxes sit around until they are hidden away and forgotten.
"I'm not used to others with abilities around me, besides my- niece, Abra." She had been determined that that was their cover story for their friendship and with everything that was going on- the death of her father and being hunted- Dan saw her as family he wanted to protect. There were a few welcome packets of coffee he had noted sitting by the coffee pot in the kitchen space, sitting waiting for whoever would move into the building. Dan could feel spirits and unseen forces all around the building but none of it felt like anything he was used to.
Turning toward her, Dan gave her an apologetic look. "So, if anything bothers you please tell me."
