Rules & Regulations 2009-2010
Signups for the fifth, fabulous year of wizard_love will be happening in two weeks, on November 1, 2009. We've updated our rules and changed a few things, so we're posting them now to give everyone ample time to read them and take them in. Even if you've participated in the past, please read them since some things have been changed or modified and we want everyone to be aware of those changes:
1. This is a fic and art exchange. That means you must produce a gift in order to receive one. If you choose to sign up, you are committing to producing a piece for the fest.
2. All participants must be 18 years of age or older as of February 1, 2010. No exceptions. We will be asking for an age statement in your sign-up post.
3. The focus of this fest is heterosexual activity. We love slash and femmeslash, but there are other fests for that. All submitted work must contain at least one male and one female participant. Homosexual relationships, threesomes, foursomes, and moresomes are certainly allowable as long as the main focus is on the het relationship(s). Any piece that doesn't fit this description will be sent back for revision.
4. The focus of this fest is romantic or sexual activity. We love gen, but there are other fests for that as well. All submitted work must contain romantic or sexual relationships. Any piece that doesn't fit this description will be sent back for revision.
5. In past years, we've required at least an R rating for all pieces. However, we've had a number of potential participants suggest that lower-rated fic and art be allowed. This year we will be lowering the rating requirement to PG-13 and asking for participants' rating preferences in their sign-ups. Please be aware, however, that matching up requests can be a very difficult process. We will do our best to match you with someone compatible, but it is possible that you may be called upon to write or draw higher-rating material. If you strongly object to the smut, this is probably not the best fest for you.
6. All fictional characters engaging in sexual activity must be at least 16 years of age when said activity takes place.
7. All fics must be at least 1,000 words in length and must be beta-read/edited before submission. All art must be a quality, completed piece. Remember, these are gifts for someone else. Any fic that is submitted with numerous SPAG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar) problems, or any art that appears to be a last-minute slap-dash sketch will be sent back for revision. If your first language is not English, please make sure to have someone whose native language is English beta your fic for you. If you cannot find a beta, please contact us and we will try to help you out in that regard.
8. All submitted pieces must be original works created for this community and its participants. Anyone caught recycling or reusing fic or art they've previously posted elsewhere will be banned and their submission pulled immediately. No exceptions. If you are aware of another participant who has recycled their submission, please contact the mods immediately and provide us with links if you have proof so that we can take care of it right away.
9. This is a secret/anonymous gift exchange, so pieces may not be posted elsewhere until the fest is over. Fics may not be related to/continuations of other works you've written. Identities of all participants will be revealed in early March.
10. All pieces are due by Monday, January 18, 2010. They are to be submitted as attachments to the mods' email account at <href="mailto:wizard.love@gmail.com">wizard.love@gmail.com</a>. Fic must be in .doc, .txt, or .rtf format with any desired HTML coding included, art as a .jpg or .png. Do not submit anything in the body of the email itself, and no Googledocs or HTML documents please!
11. We will do our best to post the earliest submissions as soon as possible. However, we will not post a gift for someone who has not turned in their own submission and we cannot post a gift that we have not received. So even if you turn in your piece a month before the deadline, we cannot guarantee your gift will be posted immediately. We have no control over when participants turn things in.
12. If you find that you absolutely must drop out of the fest, please let us know as soon as possible. Honestly, we'd rather you simply tell us that you won't be able to produce a piece than string us along for weeks or just disappear. Also be aware that if your recipient drops out, we may need to reassign your work to another participant. We will let you know in advance if this becomes necessary.
13. We highly encourage our participants and watchers to comment on fic/art as much as possible. However, criticism, whether constructive or otherwise, is not appropriate for this fest while works are still anonymous. Please withhold your criticism until after reveals, when the author or artist may freely respond to your comments.
14. "Flaming" another person's work is never appropriate. If you do not like a pairing or the content of a post, that's what the back button is for. If you notice someone leaving rude or abusive comments, please do contact the mods so we can handle it quickly.
15. If any participant has any problem with the fest, we expect you to come directly to us, the mods, with your concerns. That's what we're here for. Attacking authors/artists or complaining about the fest elsewhere before talking with the mods is not the appropriate way to solve a problem to anyone's satisfaction. Anyone, participant or watcher, causing trouble in the fest will be asked to leave and banned from future exchanges.
16. Sign-ups will begin on November 1, 2009 and end on November 11, 2009. Assignments will be out by November 18 to allow for two months' writing/drawing time. If you have a problem with your assignment, please contact us right away so we can deal with it. Information on how to sign up, fic and art headers, and more will come later.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the rules, please feel free to ask us!
