"A bit of luck and a bit of hard work. I've got a boyfriend who works very hard to help support us while I do this ... applied to be a teaching aide and studied for the exams and the like, and I work an evening job to help where I can on expenses. It's rough, but Sev's ... wonderful. Very understanding and amazingly supportive," Lily murmured, her features softening as she reflected on her relationship. "Soon as I'm able to foot most of the expenses, once I've got a proper job, it'll be his turn to head back to school. He's got plans of becoming a chemist, maybe even owning his own pharmacy one day."
She paused. "Sorry to hear about yours, running out on you. There's just no accounting for some people," Lily murmured sympathetically. Stories like that though only made her appreciate Sev even more; he'd never do anything like that to her.
Lily did grin when Dorcas went on about how she seemed like a teacher. She was oddly pleased to hear that; it gave her hope that she'd chosen a suitable career for herself. One she'd do well in and one she wouldn't get sick of after a few years. "I know," she agreed. "It is rough, but maybe someday your luck will turn. It can't rain all the time, right?"
She took the other girl's hand to shake it. "Lily Evans," she introduced herself. "Pleasure to meet you. Have you got any nicknames that you prefer to be called?" Because she could only imagine the slew of names the other woman wouldn't want to be called. "And the book's just an out of print supplement to a guide to teaching, to help with basic principles, things like that. It's supposed to help me start off on the right foot. That, and about a dozen other books."
