The ground shook enough that Rosalind was caught off balance for a few moments. She was still a beginner when it came to archery, and shooting an arrow was still very methodical to her. She wasn't able to move and shoot like Clint could, and each time she was thrown off she had to "reset" herself.
But if anything could be said about being thrown into a fire it was that it forced Rosalind to adapt. With every arrow she shot she found herself becoming more confident, each time she pulled back on the string she felt stronger and there was less wobble when she let the arrow fly. This wasn't at all how she wanted to learn, but she could not deny that it was a very good lesson.
Killian was skilled when it came to the snake portion of the beast, bobbing and weaving just out of its reach. Rosalind made sure to keep an eye on him at all times - she didn't want to accidentally shoot him while she was trying to fire at the lion. She saw her opportunity when the snake had lunged for Killian, neck outstretched to the fullest. That was to be its downfall, and as the pirate sliced at the base of the head Rosalind pulled back on the bowstring and with careful aim launched an arrow at the lion.
It flew with purpose and embedded itself into the lion's muzzle. The creature bellowed in anger, and turned its sights on the red-haired woman. Rosalind took a few steps back as she pulled another arrow out, and with more quickness this time shot it at the lion. She had hoped to stop its forward march by shooting it in the foot. Miraculously it hit the lion in the eye, the sharp point deep in the soft flesh. It howled in pain, and with that part of the creature incapacitated the goat took charge and turned tail.
Rosalind let out a heavy sigh. She didn't know how the hero-types did it. The constant fighting and maneuvering. The amount of skill required to battle the monstrosities Marrowood and Grimoire presented to them. There was a new found respect there, and admiration.
"Well that was exciting," she said to Killian with a small laugh. "Almost as exciting as creating a new device or making a new discovery," she teased. "Almost."
