Dear Sirs,

I am writing in regards to the recent removal of magical creatures from Hogwarts, with particular references to the thestrals.

I am sure that while this may appear to be a gross oversight on your behalf, that it is in fact an error on the part of those carrying out your policy on removing some creatures from Hogwarts.

You are aware, of course, that the thestrals have particular significance to the fabric of life here at Hogwarts and have had so for a number of years, certainly while my father, Nott Senior, was attending here, and that to remove them would be to remove a vital part of Wizarding History from the grounds; I know that you would not do this in light of the dilution of our culture, which is already occurring as Wizards mix more freely with the Muggleborn.

I am at a loss to understand why these creatures would be removed from the grounds in this light, as I am certain that the Ministry would not act in such a way as to become so detrimental to our currently at-risk way of life, of which the thestrals are a part.

I understand that you have recently spoken of enforcement against creatures such as centaurs and hags and would again hasten to conclude that the removal of the thestrals can only have been a mistake made by the lower lines of staff.

I have no doubt that any right-thinking, self-respecting Wizard would not include the thestrals among such creatures, being as it is that they do not possess sentience and cannot therefore bear ill will towards Wizardkind. The only threat that they may provide must surely come from their misuse and a misunderstanding of them, which of course is alleviated by the very fact that young wizards such as myself are exposed to them during our time in education.

To take this essential experience away would certainly be a gross act of incompetence and idiocy, and I am fully aware that no Minster with power in our Minstry currently can be accused of such flaws in character.

Thus it is that I am writing to you to advise you of this large error in the trust that you shall resolve the situation and agree upon the return of the thestrals to Hogwarts grounds. No form of gratitude for this notification will be necessary towards myself or my father, as it is my view that it is simply my duty as a Pureblooded member of the Wizarding society to ensure that events such as this are remedied promptly.

I will await the speedy return of the thestrals in full confidence that the Ministry are as capable and intelligent as I consider them to be.
