Who: Roger Davies, Fleur Delacour-Weasley, Hestia Jones, & Fred Weasley
When: 17th January, 1998
Where: Diagon Alley: WWW
What: Roger starts his first day working for the twins. Things go exactly as he expected, as he and Fred fall into trouble and find out just what Nagini has been up to.
Rating: R

All in all, Roger's first day working for the twins was shaping up to be quite the pleasant experience. He got to mess around with some amazing products that showed ingenuity that some might not have expected from a couple of pranksters, while flirting with the occasional bird that happened to visit the joke shop. He would have joked that they were paying him to just hang around and look pretty, if he wasn't so sure that they would really put him to work if he said that.

That wasn't to say he wasn't doing something that constituted as 'work.' Moving boxes, checking the inventory, counting countless amounts of product, keeping things tidy were all work-related and it kept him occupied during the lull between customers. He could only hope that this was what a regular day would consist of while he worked there.

Signing a piece of parchment for a child that wasn't yet old enough to go to Hogwarts, but old enough to know who he was, Roger gave him a grin and said, "Remember to tell all your friends where to shop now." Standing up from his crouched position, he waved at the small gaggle of kids gathered by the window, looking in with a mixture of envy and uncertainty, and laughed when they all scattered at his acknowledgment.

Yes. He could get used to this. Turning away as the young fan ran out of the shop with a bag of purchases, he hopped up on the counter and wondered where the twins were. He hadn't heard any worrying bangs from their backroom in too long now.

"Won't take Jones that long to get here - " Fred was in the middle of telling Roger, and keeping his arm down below his heart because yes, that sounded like what he'd been trying to remember before, when the knock at the door came.

He flashed a grin at Roger as if to say 'I told you so,'.

"Fleur, sister o'mine, I think the reinforcements are here....."

"Of course we have soap and water, does this look like some sort of-"

Fleur, rising to go fetch the items Roger had requested (noting his injured arm, she'd finally recognized him, though now hardly seemed to time for a friendly reunion), was cut off by another knock at the door. Presumably, this was Hestia, just as quickly as Fred had assumed. She arched an eyebrow at her brother-in-law and made her way swiftly to the door, hand on her wand again. Fleur couldn't help but still be a bit ruffled.

When she opened the door, though, there of course was Hestia. She looked positively freezing as she stood in the wind that was rising from the ocean.

"Hestia, thank you for coming so quickly." Fleur stood aside and beckoned the other woman in. She then all but took Hestia by the arm and led her to the sofa. "They were attacked by a snake, apparently, though how I do not know..."

"No insult meant!" He quickly said, trying to reassure Fleur as his arm protested his sudden movements.

If he didn't think throwing a pillow at Fred would have been a bad idea at that time, he would have lifted one to smack Fred with. He settled
for rolling his eyes as he stood up. Seeing her in person, he could vaguely recall seeing a younger Hestia in Hogwarts when he had been a First Year. But not enough to be on a first name basis with her.

"I don't know what kind of snake it was, but I remember it being big. And green." He looked over at Fred, briefly wondering if he should mention the old lady. But any bit of information he could remember would help, right? Were there any known species of snakes that that lived in human corpses? "It...came out of an old woman's body. I don't quite understand how or what exactly was going on, but it seemed to be wearing the old woman like a suit."

Between the light of the inside and the sudden warmth that hit her, Hestia felt as if she was moving into a different world. She blinked slightly as her eyes adjusted to the difference in light and she managed to move as quickly as Fleur was directing her. A snake.

They were attacked by a snake. Who the 'they' might be was still a question that had remained to be answered. That was until she caught sight of a wild mop of red hair and a slightly beaten man she recognized as a Quidditch player. Incredibly curious.

And more than incredibly frightening.

"Big. Green," she was repeatng the words as her mind took them in. She couldn't place the animal off the top of her head, but she knew she would look into it later. "You bloody Weasley men and getting attacked by snakes. Think you ought to start staying away from them."

She took sight of Fred and shook her head before she shook off her cloak and slipped her wand from the inside of the sleeve of her sweater.

"We need to clean the wound first, and if one of you-" she motioned toward Fleur and Roger, not caring who, "could start heating up a cualdron, that would be brilliant."

"Same snake, actually," Fred pointed out, when Hestia mentioned his dad being attacked by one too. "Don't remember much about Dad being treated except they tried those muggle slitches? Whatever they're called, and it dissolved them right away."

And he wasn't even sure how he knew it was the same snake, except he remembered Harry talking to them later - and he knew it was Voldemort's bloody pet or something.

"We'll have to go back," He said, and he wasn't sure who he was saying it to. Maybe Roger, except that Roger wasn't a part of the group that would have to go back and figure things out. "See who the woman was that the snake was using." And see if there was any way to figure out where the sodding thing was now.

At Hestia's word Fleur had set off to the kitchen, where she had stored the cauldrons just hours before, and returned with one shortly. As she set it in the fireplace and set a small blaze beneath it, she looked over her shoulder at the trio near the sofa.

"Well you are certainly not going anywhere tonight," she declared, looking very stern indeed. This whole thing sounded horrifying - a snake wearing an old woman's skin like a suit? What could that possibly be?

Pleased enough with the setup in the hearth, Fleur turned on her heels and walked back over to them, brushing her hands off daintily. "It deserves addressing. But you can not mean you wish to return alone."
