Who: Hermione, Harry, Ron
What: Horcrux discussion, and destruction!
Where: Forest of Dean
When: Today
Rating/Warning: Some Violence, Language, and Danger

She couldn't believe it was that easy. There right in front of her in Dumbledore's notes. The next horcruxes. She knew what they were! Hermione stared at her journal in silent awe for at least five full minutes before she jumped up, tearing through the tent to find Harry.

"Harry!" She called, then pulled open the divider to his bedroom in the tent. "Harry! Get up! I've figured out the next two horcruxes! I know what they are!" Which, of course, didn't help them to destroy this one, but it put them one step further. Two steps, really. Two very large steps closer to what they needed to eventually do, which was destroy all of them. And, if they could talk together about what this might mean if she was right, then maybe Gryffindor's Sword would be the answer to this riddle, too.

"He's asleep," he said with a nod, his fingers tightening a little around his wand. "Dry. He'll be alright."

He ought to have turned and gone out to the lakeside again. Instead, he found himself fixed to the spot, his gaze traveling between her and the pile of clothes she'd set out for him. He reached up to rub a little nervously at his temple. "... How're you?"

"Me?" Hermione sounded surprised that he asked, really. She wasn't the one who'd just destroyed the horcrux... everything she'd done had been useless, really. And Ron... she really couldn't believe it, but it had happened, and she so bloody proud of him.

"I missed you," She said instead of any of that, then blushed and looked down at her knees. "You should... go and get the sword. We'll need it."

Ron felt like he'd spent the whole night losing his breath - he had to remind himself to inhale. I missed you. He was flooded with relief, and the last lingering images of the ghosts on the lake's shore left him, for now. "Yeah," he said, feeling a bit light-headed. "Right. - Be right back."

He left the tent, and started towards the lake. Within thirty seconds he was sprinting. He skidded across the mud, grabbed the hilt, and flew back to the tent's door as fast as his legs could carry him. The ten seconds he spent steadying his breathing outside didn't do very much good. He made a cursory attempt at straightening his hair, stepped inside, and set the sword carefully on the table. He cleared his throat, gave her an uncertain little smile, and went to change, hopefully before she could notice he'd half-soaked himself again. When he returned he took a seat on the other end of the couch, and discovered that he hadn't thought of anything to say to her in the meantime. Perfect.

"Well ... one down," he said, smiling at her a little weakly.

"One down," She echoed, and a moment later anyone would have thought she was apparating, because she'd moved so quickly to the other end of the couch that she was just a blur - throwing her arms tight around his neck, and to do that she really had to be halfway in his lap. She didn't care.

"Oh, Ron." She sighed it, against his shoulder, and she'd think herself ridiculous tomorrow, but for now the digging bitterness of the horcrux was gone. Gone! And Ron had come back. And Harry was alright. And she was just so damned relieved for all of it.

She'd almost forgotten what being happy felt like.

Ron gave a start - he didn't know what he had expected, but - not this. The shock of having her close to him again, really close, an undeniable weight and warmth against his legs and his chest, was too good to be true. He wound his arms tightly around her ribs without a second thought, pressed his lips against her hair and breathed in. He hadn't realized how many things he'd missed about being here - about her.

The thought of apologizing seemed wrong. He didn't want to talk about leaving, or about what he'd felt while he was away. He couldn't imagine she did, either. "Glad I found you," he murmured, hoping it would do, for now. "Glad you're alright. - Both of you."

"You too," She said, and she wasn't really aware of how worried she'd been about him - all of Ginny's notes, and the articles - until the horcrux was gone, now, and she could finally feel other things again.

She hugged him tighter, not even caring that that meant she was pressing herself even closer against him. "Thank you," She heard herself saying, and that didn't embarrass her either.

Harry's shocky, too-cold unconsciousness had given way to a normal sort of sleep, and he fluttered awake in time to see the two of them plastered against each other. "Right, so you want me to leave?" he asked, voice coming out a bit wobbly and croaking, but recognizably his.

Harry swung his legs to the side, sitting up and rubbing absently at his neck. His throat ached from being choked and his head felt a bit like a herd of hippogryffs had tromped over it. But he felt lighter than he had in weeks, like he could think clearly and not feel like he wanted to punch anyone. He gave Ron a sheepish sort of grin. "Good timing," he told the redhead.

He remembered, in a slightly fuzzy way, what Ron had seen before, when the locket opened. "Hermione and me are just friends. She's like my sister," he blurted gracelessly.

There was a stupid grin creeping its way across Ron's face that was impossible to tamp down, try as he might. He knew very well he didn't deserve Hermione's thanks, but it was easy to forget, now. He was about to tug her onto his lap when Harry's voice cut into the haze that was steadily building up in his mind - he turned his head sharply to look at him, almost like he'd forgotten he was there.

"Yeah," he said, his smile only fading slightly. "Yeah, great timing." Fucking fantastic timing, Harry. Thanks.

He glanced back at Hermione, feeling his face start to burn again. "I know," he said, a bit too quickly, as though he had no idea what Harry was going on about. But it hung awkwardly in the silence. "Good," he added feebly, before clearing his throat and letting go of Hermione to rub at his temple again.

Hermione had at least enough sense to let go of Ron as Harry startled her out of whatever overpowering rush of emotions she'd been stuck in. She... she would have done just about anything with Ron, just then, she realized. And it was a shock that she didn't feel completely ashamed of the idea.

She moved away from him, though, just sitting between him and Harry on the sofa as Harry talked. Except...

"Of course we're just friends..." She said slowly, then she turned to look at Ron almost accusing. "What did you say to him?"

Harry was grinning, feeling lighter without the damn locket hanging over them. And more than a little amused by his own timing. He thought he probably SHOULD leave, which was awkward, but it was kind of hard to not just think it was funny right now. He'd just about died of a sodding NECKLACE, but he felt better than he had in a month.

He cleared his throat. "He didn't say anything. It was just. . . the locket. It was weird when it died. Don't worry about it. I just. . . wanted to make sure he knew," he offered, trying to cover and not being very clever about it.

"I didn't say anything," Ron reiterated immediately, looking to Hermione with the most sincere expression he could muster. "He must have knocked his head harder than I thought when he fainted. He should probably go back to bed."

He had a feeling that was hopeless, though. And in truth, he doubted if he could really pick up where he'd left off, now that he'd remembered Harry was here. - And he wanted to catch up with him, of course. "But if you're hungry, there's scones," he said, trying not to sound too grudging. "Mum made them. They're probably stale."

"Right," Hermione said, not looking at all like she believed either of them as she looked back and forth between Harry and Ron. But, all in all, it was probably a good think that Harry had come in to stop them.

"Scones..." She said, like she was processing it, then she sighed and said, "We have some soup and chocolate and canned things, that Viktor put out for us. Maybe we should all have something to eat, and then talk. I think I figured something important out today, before Harry stormed off."

Harry rubbed at his neck again and got up, a little shaky on his feet for a second, but managing. "Scones?" he perked up a bit at that. Viktor's canned things and chocolate had come in handy, but he was pretty damn sick of it."

He still felt a little chilly, but it was passing, and Harry picked up one of the scones, biting into it, adding with his mouth half full. "You told me already," he mumbled, and then swallowed, looking between them again.

"I can uhh. . . I mean you can just tell Ron and I can. . . go look outside for anything we missed." Like grass. Since he could see the sword, and the locket, so it wasn't like he had a legitimate reason to go outside. But he could make an attempt to be tactful.

Ron made a more or less neutral hm sound in his throat at the mention of Krum. It was much easier to let it pass when Hermione had just pulled herself off his neck, but it wasn't something he cared to dwell on, either. "I can heat up some soup," he said, carefully blank.

He almost smiled at attempt the get out of the way. "So you can go freeze your arse off again?" he asked, knowing full well they hadn't missed anything. "Thanks, but I'm through with swimming for the day. Whatever it is, you can sit through it one more time." Very reluctantly, he stood off the couch and went to find something in a can.

Hermione stood too, though, catching Ron and pushing him down onto the couch again.

That did make her blush a little, though. She cleared her throat and said instead, "No, I'll go and get it. You get the scones out, and you and Harry can... " Catch up, she thought, but that didn't seem to really work in this situation.

She didn't let him argue, though. Just headed to their makeshift kitchen on her own instead.

"Yeah well, I wasn't planning on jumping in again." Harry hadn't been planning on jumping in last time, either. It just kind of happened. He was a bit fuzzy on how, actually. A vision, maybe.

He sat down again obediently, watching Hermione bustle away and then looking at Ron. He dropped his voice so she couldn't hear, shifting a bit awkwardly. "So. . . thanks. And I'm glad you're back. And it really isn't. . . all of that was rubbish, you know."
