Who: Lucius Malfoy and Minerva McGonagall
What: An official visit
Where: Hogwarts
When: Today
Warnings: TBA

It had been years since Lucius had walked the road from Hogsmeade to the castle gates, and it seemed to have grown distinctly longer and steeper in the meantime. The wind wasn't doing him any favors, of course. He fought the urge to duck his chin further into his scarf as he made the final turn up to the grand entrance - he meant to return with his head held high, even if his face was a little flushed from the cold. It was beyond satisfying to know that he had outlasted the man who had always seemed to take such pleasure in thwarting Lucius's every effort to preserve what remained of Hogwarts' dignity. If he hadn't been ordered to stop by, he thought, he might have done so on his own just to dance on the grave.

A little more decorum was probably called for, now. Not that politesse was going to dislodge McGonagall from her roost; but he did hope to incite her to leave under her own power, and that would require some appeal to logic. She would be a fool to stay, and anger did tend to make people act foolishly. He would do his best not to be overly offensive. He presented his governor's seal to the Auror at the gates with a thoroughly courteous good afternoon, explained that he had rather urgent business with the Headmistress, and continued silently formulating his plan of attack. Lucius suspected she hadn't mellowed in the thirty years since he'd sat in her class.

Savage sent a message to the Headmistress' office the moment Lucius had walked away from him, and by the time Malfoy had tramped across the yard, Minerva McGonagall was waiting just inside the doors of the main hall.

She wasted no time in approaching when he did come in. "Mr Malfoy," She said, and she had the way about her which always made it sound as if she was lecturing an errant student, even if he was a student decades ago. "I was informed you had business with me?"

He'd hardly had a chance to loosen his scarf, never mind warm up, before she accosted him. Well, at least he'd been allowed inside, first. "Good afternoon, Headmistress," he said, not willing to abandon his pleasantries so quickly. "I do. Perhaps you'd like to discuss it somewhere a bit more private." Not that there were like to be many students running about, but this was Hogwarts. Some of the walls literally had ears.

"That depends, Mr Malfoy, on how long you think this conversation will take before I turn you out of the castle altogether." She said it, then seemed to consider him before huffing, "Come," And turning in a fast clip in the direction of her office.

Lucius allowed himself a very small smirk as she turned away, and followed her, keeping pace easily. "Surely you don't often have cause to throw governors out on their ears? I've only come in my official capacity - my only concern is for the well-being of your students." As it had been the last time he'd gotten the headmaster sacked.

"As I have made very clear to the Ministry and the public at large, I am less concerned your Board than you might think." And as recent news had indicated that she wasn't concerned at all, that was very little concern indeed. She did not look at him, simply waved her wand and stepped onto the stairwell that rose to her office. He could follow, or no. She would prefer no.

"Yes, quite clear." Lucius followed her up to her office, undeterred. "And you've made it equally plain that you have no use at all for the Ministry. I'm curious - how do you expect to keep your post with the support of neither? It seems to me the writing's on the wall. Do you propose to resign, or wait to be removed?"
