Who: Greg and Theo
Where: The Nott Estates
What: Greg goes to visit Theo.
When: Decemeber 19th, morning
Rating: R

It wasn't really Theo Greg was worried about.  He knew his dad expected him to make an excellent impression on the senior Nott gentleman if he should see him. So as he pulled out clothes to take, half of them went back on the floor as Greg groaned, catching sight of a stain on this shirt, or a hole in this one.  He was flustered; he wanted to just be there, and here he was, acting like a fucking girl selecting clothes for a date.

This is not a date, he thought to himself.  He wasn't sure if they go flying.  He wasn't sure what they'd be doing together, but he hoped for something.  And it didn't require any clothes.  Greg was sure it wasn't going to happen.  Hell, he still wasn't sure what happened, exactly.  The train ride had been a hang over blurr, lounging in a compartment with Draco and Pansy and Blaise while he fought to keep himself from hurling at the throb in his head.  He'd kept looking for Theo, and just looking at him and it hadn't seemed real.  Even on the train, Greg had wanted to corner him, and demand a re-play, a kiss to see if the dream had really been a reality.  But he'd felt this hesitation;  he didn't really want to ruin the vision in his head if it was a dream. And then what did that make him?  A gay boy?  Lusting after his friend?  He'd felt confused and slightly miserable, and once he'd arrived home, his brothers had immediately distracted him.

Apparently, everyone in the family approved of his recent weight loss and change.  His brothers, each home from a successful mission, had invited him to fly, and then dragged him off to a pub.  Greg had never been included in such an obvious way, and he'd accepted it.  But they'd gone, off to their next assignment, and that had given Greg far too much time to ponder, and remember.

And remember.

With a satchell stuffed with some clothes, toothbrush, and a hair brush, Greg slung on his traveling cloak, and moved to ready himself, to step into the Floo.  He paused, looking about the house, and realized that he really should have gotten Theo a gift of some sort.  Greg nipped into the study, and found a unopened bottle of Fire-Whiskey, which he stuffed into his bag. He had plenty of galleons, thrust upon him by his brothers, so if they went somewhere, Greg was confident that he could pay.  He checked his reflection in a mirror on the wall, and moved to the Floo, chucking a handful of green powder into the grate.

"Nott Estates."

With a green flame bursting, Greg stepped in and after a moment of moving and spinning, stepped out into a large foyer.   A House-elf appeared almost immediately and Greg handed him the small bag.

"Tell Mr. Theo Nott I'm here," he said.

Greg was in the process of brushing off his robes when Theo's comment caught him by surprise. Eyes a tad wider, Greg turned to meet Theo's eyes and then swept back to look at the bit of the house that could still be seen.

Hope surged up in Greg at the way Theo spoke. He looked ahead, down the path, brightening visible.

"If not here, maybe down the path a bit?" and a shy smile teased at his lips, "Okay?"

Theo almost took a step back from Greg but didn't because that too would be a sign of weakness frowned upon by his father. He shook his head. "No, I... not here." he said, stressing the word, hoping that Greg would finally get it. The tension of the moment was making him ache, even though most of it was only from ghosts of childhood in his own head.

Not here.

Greg paused, pursing his lips again as he looked a bit perplexed. He let out a sigh, his shoulders dropping and he started to walk forward, down the slope. Pausing, he looked over his shoulder at Theo.

"Well, come on then. Can I at least speak with you about it? Out here? I won't....I won't try anything Theo, not if you're so flipping worried," and Greg frowned now, and looked back over his shoulder at the disappearing house. He decided that was the last time he was going to be worried about where the damn house was.

Greg's boots crunched the rough rock below his feet and he strode forward, hoping Theo would catch up with him.

"You can speak about it, can't you? Please Theo," he added, his tone changing, "I've got to know," and Greg paused, "I've been going a bit mad in my head, going round and round about you...and me....and things."

Theo followed Greg but was frustrated and a little distressed despite himself that Greg didn't seem to get the point. The house might have been out of sight, but his father's influence in this place was always directly over his shoulder.

He didn't bite his lip but he tasted blood in his mouth from where he was biting down against his cheek. He shook his head. "I can summon a house elf if you'd like tea." he said, his tone blank but still managing to sound heavy with a hint of misery.

Greg was struck slightly dumb at how incongruously Theo was acting. Greg looked down, feeling a bit of the fool. He had said he wouldn't speak of things, and here he was, pressing the issue.

"I don't want my bloody tea, thanks all the same," Greg said sourly, and he shoved his hands into his pockets, and walked silently next to Theo. After a time, he grunted, "Well, this is a fine thing. I said I wouldn't talk about things as it were, because I was certain you didn't want to admit it even happened. Now, you've got me so muddled...," he said, trailing off as he looked down at his feet, striding down the path. He moved, his brain turning things over and over in his mind.

He glanced at Theo, "So, I've got to wait until school? Is that it? I know I'm being a bit thick about this Theo," he said, his own tone echoing the misery that rose up in his chest. He'd been so thrilled to accept the invitation and even now, being this close to Theo, Greg itched to reach an arm out to Theo and pull the other boy to him, and hold him tightly.

Theo didn't say anything about Greg's snappish response to his question, because it was fair enough and he hadn't meant it as just that question either. He hoped that Greg wouldn't push the issue any further now, because it sounded like he'd understood Theo's predicament.

Unfortunately, this didn't seem to be the case. He didn't say anything, as much as he wanted to, keeping his mouth closed and his eyes away from Greg's.

He was being asked a question, and answering it would make this so much easier, but Theo couldn't open his mouth to do so... he looked away in the direction of the forbidding house, then back at Greg and nodded. There. He hadn't said anything about it but hopefully Greg still knew that this wasn't the end of the conversation.

Greg watched Theo's short nod and finally, finally some clarity came through his muddled emotionally fogged brain.

Not here. OH! Not HERE!

Greg swallowed his disappointment, and gave a large heavy sigh. He felt the disappointment cover him like a blanket, and he moved forward, his feet feeling heavy.

He didn't say anything for a minute, and then nodded back, "Okay, I get it," and he turned to face Theo, "So, other things to speak about. Still reading that book of yours?" he asked, not really that interested in that but Greg was going to take what he could get. He thought it was going to a be long, long dry weekend. He knew he could only make so much small talk.

Theo heard the sigh and flinched on the inside - that sound of disappointment haunted his lesser nightmares, even if it wasn't from Greg before now - but at least his friend had gotten the point.

He shook his head to the question. "I let it at school." he advised, the 'I had to' was unspoken. "I've been studying. And yourself?" God, he wanted someone to leap out and AK him where he stood.

"You did, did you? Well, I guess that is a bit of a bother. But Theo, why in Merlin's name are you studying?! I mean, I know why I am working on my charms practice," he said, turning to face forward as he walked by Theo's side, "I've got a brute of a tutor who I do not want to disappoint if I let my new skills slip. Hell, he might take to roughing me up a bit if I do."

Greg's smile was sad, and he only glanced quickly at Theo, wanting only to at least look at the other boy if he couldn't touch him. He swallowed and pressed on with idle chatter, "I've been mucking about with my brothers if you can believe it. They've taken me to Diagon Alley at least twice, and out drinking in Hogsmeade. It's been different, to say the least, and a bit intimidating. I can't think what they want from me; normally, they'd never spend much time with me, let alone take me about with them. I'm worried that they've decided I should be getting laid or something," and he glanced at Theo, wondering if this news would cause any sort of reaction, "At least, that was the talk the other day. All about girls, and tits, and the taste of...well, you get the idea. It was...enlightening I guess," Greg said, still surprised at how adamant his brothers had been about how bloody fun it was to get lost in a woman's body. Greg had been pretty quiet during the whole affair, and had sipped his drink as his brothers had literally rushed into drunkenness. It had sounded tempting, but Greg felt this obligation to Theo, even if the other boy was acting like a damn stiff.

"There's always new things to learn, Greg." Theo said, and he sounded tired although he tried not to. "Maybe you should learn a new charm to beat your tutor up first?" he suggested, but he didn't even fake a smile.

Theo listened to Greg talk on, liking the patter and fall of the conversation because he didn't have to be on his toes for it the way he did when he spoke to his father and his father's friends...well, he didn't think he had to be anyway, until the comment about girl's made him tense up, for only a fraction of a second but a fraction of a second too long. "Enlightening... yes." Theo murmured, and there was that sinking feeling again... he liked this 'thing' he had with Greg, as infant as it was at the moment.

He knew consciously though that nothing good would come of it, that Greg would do better to move on and settle down with a nice girl, maybe even one he chose and not one his father forced on him.

Greg gave a small shrug, "I'm not much good on my own, I'm afraid. We could work here I guess," and he added quickly, "If that were acceptable. Don't want to get you into too much trouble."

He didn't get much of a reaction from Theo about his brothers' instructions and suggestion, but he wasn't too surprised at this point. Greg stopped and turned towards Theo, 'You know, tea sounds pretty good right about now. You think we can drink with it?" his implication clear.

Theo tilted his head to consider this. "I'll ask my father." he decided. That's pretty much all the response he was allowed to give anymore, having lost the ability to make his own decisions.

He stopped as suddenly as Greg did and tried to pretend that his fingers hadn't twitched towards his wand. He was slightly confused by Greg's sudden turn of phrase, having allowed his brain to turn off in order to get through the holidays. He shrugged a shoulder. "Whatever you want."

Greg made a face at Theo's first words.

"Don't ask your father, Theo! If you have to, then let's not do it, at least not here. I guess we could think of other things to do," and he pursed his lips as he turned back towards the path they'd just traveled.

"We could play some games maybe? Got a wizard's chess set? Not that I'm that good, but I guess..," and he paused, as an idea lit up his face, "I've got a deck of cards. We could play cards! What do you say? A bit of drinking, cards, maybe some gambling? Hell, does your dad have any cigars lying about that we could..borrow?"

He was going to say pinch but he had a feeling Theo would frown almost immediately.

"I say, let's get tight."

Greg still spoke like Theo could afford to be seen or overheard to disagree with his father, and it at once comforted him and set him on edge, because he couldn't, but it was nice to think that he could.

The games sounded a little better, as long as the boys kept quiet, but...

"I don't think cigars would be appropriate." he said, trying to pretend that he meant what he was saying. "You're welcome to have a drink. We can play cards as long as we keep the volume respectful."

Greg snorted, "Not appropriate are they? Well, I don't want to get you into too much trouble now, but you won't get in trouble if I get blithering drunk, will you?" He paused, "Not that I want to embarrass you in front of your da," he added, his exuberance slightly dimmed by the notion, "Your da must not have much to do, to worry about your actions so bloody much. You should really come round to my house. You can do about whatever you bloody well like; as long as it's not in front of my da, it's fine. I mean, I'm bloody tame compared to my brothers!" Greg walked up the hill, and the view of the house came back into sight, dark and fairly foreboding. "Does your da care if you go out? Like to the Alley or to Hogsmeade? You allowed?" Greg asked conversationally.

Theo didn't say anything to either Greg's query as to whether he'd be in trouble if Greg got too drunk - he would - or to his observation that his dad had nothing better to do than worry over his actions.

He walked back in silence with Greg, feeling uncomfortable because of the blocks on his conversation but at the same time, easy walking with his friend like this. He never realised how desperate for company he was underneath the icy composure until it was here and he could do nothing about it. "I'm not really supposed to leave the estate." he said, almost mumbled, his head down and his voice low, though not low enough that it wouldn't carry.
