Even talking about it seriously, the word 'relationship' made Heath pull a face, like it left a sour taste in his mouth. He hadn't ever had an example of a good one, or anything close. He was dreamy enough to think he was looking for true love, but the mechanics of making something work with someone still terrified him quite a lot. "Oi, you and me both, mate."
He hadn't missed that disappointment, though, and Gideon - his best mate, his band brother - wasn't really allowed to be disappointed in things. So Heath smiled back to him again, then shrugged. "It would have been brilliant though. I mean, we're both pretty damn good." Not that they'd been that good in school, but he didn't remember it being embarrassing, either.
