Who: Astoria & Draco
What: Celebrating a victory of sorts & making things obvious
Where: Hogwarts Courtyard
When: After the Quidditch game
Rating/Warning: TBA

Astoria stood in the center in the small offshoot of courtyard that she and Draco had gone to last time, away from the immediate prying eyes of anyone coming and going inside the castle. She didn't usually attend Quidditch matches unless Draco was playing, she didn't really get the appeal of the sport, but even she had had to admit that today's match had been exciting and she'd found herself cheering and yelling encouragements and booing Gryffindor just like many of her housemates. She thought, although it was hard to tell with how little she watched the sport, that Draco had played much better today as well. Or, she admitted to herself, she might be just a little bit more then biased.

Draco felt like a weight had been lifted, really, giving the team over to Vaisey. He knew that none of them understood why he'd done it, really, and that it seemed like a strange thing for him to have done. He wasn't sure why he'd done it himself, really... or, he was, and didn't want to think on it too closely.

Still, he'd enjoyed Quidditch for the first time in years, today, and had the win to show for it. Not a bad showing. He slid away from the celebration in the Common Room, though, while no one was paying attention - too busy congratulating the others or talking about Vaisey in the hospital wing - and made his way to the courtyard.

It was freezing, now that the sun was slipping, and he cast a warming charm around himself, and went in search of her.

Astoria was sitting on the same bench they'd sat on before, arms hugged around herself, ridiculously glad that she'd put on her warmer cloak to watch the game today, her house scarf wrapped around her neck snugly, leaning back and watching the clouds as they got pained different colors by the setting sun. She heard Draco coming and she shifted, turning to look at him, giving him a warm, wide smile, just for him.

He stopped just as he turned the corner to what - he realized with a surprised sort of quiet terror - he already thought of as their portion of this courtyard. She was smiling so easily though, so readily, that the thought wasn't as terrible as it might have been under other circumstances. He offered a tightlipped smirking-smile of his own, and crossed the few steps to sit beside her.

True to form, he only noticed the way she was sitting after he'd sat. "You're freezing," He said, more a statement than a question.

She laughed and shook her head. "If I was freezing, I'd have put up a warming charm. I like cold weather. I like being just cold enough that going inside and getting warmed up can be properly appreciated. Besides, i was too excited about our winning to really notice. Congratulations, Draco. You flew brilliantly."

Draco's smirk slid into something even more like a smile at that, and he laughed softly, the sound a little sharp in the cold. "I must say I did," There wasn't any humility there. "Then again, it was against Weasley, which takes a little of the triumph out of it."

"Oh she's not a bad Seeker, though. You're just better," she said confidently, as if it was simple fact. She tilted her head at him and studied him for a moment. "You looked like you were having fun out there, too. I can't remember the last time I got so into a match, either. It was a good game. Even if Goyle did knock Vaisey off his broom."

Draco made a face at the idea of Weasley being a good Seeker. He didn't like women playing Quidditch, and he detested Weasley. It wasn't just prejudice, the girl literally made his skin crawl - ridiculous family aside, she was so brash and loud. So easily unacceptable, and proud of the fact. Draco thought she was a bit of slut, to be honest, and that she was proud of the fact made her a bit disgusting.

The look faded, though, at that last bit. "I actually thought that was one of the better parts of game, actually. Greg ought to try to do just the same for every game. Make a tradition of it."

Astoria personally thought Ginny was tacky, classless and entirely too proud of the fact that she was a terrible example. That didn't mean she didn't know her way around a broom, sadly. Better then Astoria did, for certain. She had even, for a very brief period, gave serious thought to taking Quidditch lessons in her quest to get closer to Draco. Thankfully, she'd gotten over that ridiculous impulse quickly. Astoria could RIDE a broom quite well, but she was never going to be up to Quidditch ability.

She laughed. "You would. I'm sure if you asked him, he would manage it at some point in the season. Although Vaisey might wonder if it was some sort of new hazing tradition for Captains."

"Definitely the proper way to introduce him to the job," Draco agreed, snorting, and he found himself wondering for a moment if Goyle really would do that if he asked him. He pushed the thought aside. Of course he would.

She gave him a thoughtful glance. "Do I dare ask why it is exactly that Vaisey has the job? That was rather... unexpected of you." Mostly because she never imagined Draco would have wanted to let someone else be in charge of him once he'd made it to the top of the team.

Draco's small smile did fade, then. He frowned just barely, staring down for a moment and then looking back up to her. "It's complicated," He said, and hoped she'd stop at that. Somehow he had that faint dizzying memory, though, that said that wasn't the likeliest thing to happen.

She arched a brow at him, looking faintly amused. "When isn't it, Draco? We don't exactly exist in simple times." She saw the look on his face and frowned faintly. "You don't have to tell me, of course. But I wish you would."

She shrugged, and evidently deciding that she'd leave it up to him, reached behind herself on the bench and pulled out a slender wrapped package. "This is for you." Her skin pinked slightly, and it wasn't all from the cold. "It's a..." her other hand fluttered faintly. "victory gift. For winning."

"It's - " Draco might have actually started to answer her, something in that plaintive note to her voice and her frown that made him more apt to it. But then she distracted him, and he quickly snapped his traitorous mouth closed and stared at the present instead.

"A gift?" He asked, a bit dumbly, reaching for it.

It was sheer force of will that kept Draco from shaking, he was pretty sure. The same that kept him from getting up and leaving when she shuddered - really shuddered - next to him. And what more should he expect, really. He reached to pull his cuff back down, but then she was touching him and he froze, not sure what would happen if her fingers slid over what she was avoiding. He would have grabbed her hand, stopped her. Who knew what He could sense through it.

Then her hand dropped to his instead, and he barely had time to pull down his sleeve before she was kissing him, and at first he didn't respond, but then his free hand caught her by the neck and held her into it, and it was far less chaste than it should have been, true, but Draco was so overwhelmingly relieved that he could have thought that if he'd tried.

When she was just sitting next to him, though, the fear rushed back. If she wanted to talk about the damned thing, he would leave.

He didn't expect her question, though. And he hesitated for a moment before answering, "Not at the moment."

She moaned, just a quiet, breathy little sound as he held her in the kiss and she didn't move away from him, or let go of him. His answer reassured her though and she leaned in, emboldened and kissed him again, slower this time, but no less sincere. It was, perhaps, a little gentler however. "I'm terrified for you. We probably shouldn't... discuss it. But... if you want to, later, or never, or.. I don't know. I'll listen. I'm here if you want me to be," she finally just said, feeling like that was wholly inadequate for what this thing was, looming up around them. She curled in closer to him somehow, pressed against his side, her voice breaking a little. "Gods and goddesses, Draco, be careful."

"I am careful," Draco answered. And he knew he should tell her that it was his choice, that he believed in everything that Mark stood for. In a way, that was all true. He believed in their superiority. In class division. In weeding out things that weren't meant to be mingled.

He just hadn't been able to reconcile killing for it, and wasn't that the cause of all of his problems? But even as he thought it, he knew that wasn't entirely true. The figure of his father loomed up in his mind, and he pushed it back and buttoned his cuff again before he slid that arm around her. "You ought to forget you saw it," He said instead.

She laid her head on his shoulder, and burrowed in close to him, and she didn't care if it was the cold, the chill of discovery, or the need to comfort him somehow that led her to do it. "Right," she said, laughing dryly. "I'll just erase that from my list of things I did today." She sighed. It couldn't be undone. Well, no technically it could, he could erase the memories from her, but she didn't think he would. Why go to the trouble of showing her then.

"You better be careful, because I'll do more then swat your nose if you're not and something happens to you," she threatened mildly, albeit very sincerely.

Draco snorted, but he didn't try to move - didn't want her to move at all from where she was. The weight of her head there so new and yet so familiar, and he was beginning not to question that about her anymore.

"Right. Duly noted," He finally said dryly, "If I die, you'll kill me."

She rolled her eyes and briefly considered punching his arm, but she just hugged herself against him instead. "Yes, that is exactly it. I will brew up some potion that will make it possible, see if I don't. Or, you could just save us both the trouble and not die. Much easier and it would save a lot of time." She sighed for a moment.

"You did fly really brilliantly today, by the way." It was an abrupt change of subject, but she had a feeling that continuing to discuss the thing which they were not discussing was not going to get them very far.

"Were you cheering just for me?" Draco asked, and he was relieved that she knew, but more relieved that she was willing to move on from the topic too. He hoped he didn't have to tell her that she couldn't breathe a word of this - to anyone.

Astoria was smart enough to guess in the first place, she was smart enough to know she couldn't tell anyone. Not even Daphne, which would be the hardest person to keep it from. She was used to telling her sister everything, especially the important bits. And this was terribly important and she couldn't help but think that she SHOULD tell Daphne. She wouldn't though. It was too dangerous. For Draco, for herself and for her sister. She shivered a little and pressed her face against his shoulder for a moment, before she could focus to answer his question. She laughed, and if was still a little strained, it was real. "Well, I certainly wasn't cheering for Vaisey. Or Goyle. Although knocking him off the broom, well I was torn about whether I should be cheering or not."

"That was brilliant, wasn't it?" Draco snorted again, some of the tension he'd been feeling starting to relax out of his muscles as the conversation moved on to easier things. "I'm toying with the idea of asking him to knock him off the broom at the close of every game. Make a tradition of it."

She laughed again, and shook her head. "I think he might suspect something eventually. He's not you, but he's not a complete idiot. Then again, if Goyle keeps knocking him down and scattering his wits, perhaps he'll be declared unfit eventually and Daphne wouldn't have to marry him!"

"See, it would be a service to your family I'd be offering," Draco snorted again, and without his really meaning to his arm squeezed her shoulders. "Though, you are right. I wouldn't want Goyle tossed off the team for it. We don't have anyone nearly as vicious as he can be."

"Hmmm, you are indeed, offering a valuable service, although I don't know if my parents would see it that way," she giggled, "Hmmm, he is rather good, when he directs it at the proper team, at knocking people around." Really, that was all Goyle had ever been good for, that she'd noticed. "Either way, it was worth it to see the look on Weasley's face when you grabbed the snitch right from her."
