11/21/97 -
Characters: Megan Jones & Su Li & Open
Setting: 11/21/97. 25min before the Gryffindor vs Slytherin match. The grounds to the pitch.
Summary: Megan's walking to the pitch. Someone should catch up with her!
Status: Incomplete

The week had been a rather emotional one and the first quidditch match of the year was a welcomed one. Though Hufflepuff wasn't playing Megan Jones was eager to see how Gryffindor and Slytherin were fairing with the roster changes this term. Plus, who didn't like watching the Gryffindors get brutalized by the Slytherins and vice versa. Though Megan didn't openly acknowledge her house rivalries it was always fun watching the two most obnoxious houses get pummeled on the field. It didn't matter who won so long as there was something worth talking about afterwards.

If you hadn't guessed already Megan Jones had always been a fan of on the field violence. It always made things more interesting - in any sport really.

That particular Saturday Megan had disappeared for most of the morning having chosen to work with Professor Sprout on pruning some of the poisonous puss posies they were growing this term. She'd volunteered earlier in the week to help and genuinely sought to do the job without much complaint. Course, she did sort of lose track of time before she realized she had twenty minutes to get to the pitch before the toss happened. Washing up the best she could in a lower level washroom she started the trek to the pitch without company.

There were a few people making their way to the pitch, but none of them seemed to be anyone Megan would feel right tagging along with. It wasn't until she heard her name called from behind did she stop and turn to see who it was. A smile present on her face as she scanned the small groups of people for a familiar face in approach.

"I don't know," Megan mused on the subject of the change in Slytherin captaincy. "Vaisey's always been a strong player. I think it might do the team some good actually. When Malfoy took over because his daddy bought the team they went down hill pretty fast."

Despite the fact that Megan had her reservations about house quidditch and the politics that went into it - she did keep up with who was where on the skill level chart. If you played quidditch at any time during her stay at Hogwarts chances were she knew something about your stats when you played. She was that driven about it really.

"Though," she tacked on with a shrug, "I don't know how that'll all work out with him as a leader for the first time." She grinned at looked to Su, "We'll see I guess."

"Yeah, I know if I were Captain and wanted to turn the helm over to another team member, I certainly wouldn't do so within days of the first match. Especially knowing that we'd be playing an especial rival." Su shook her head, her face evidencing the distaste she had for Malfoy's decision making. "Still, he's not a bad player, really, so hopefully he can keep his head clear."

Speaking of Quidditch captains made Su's mind wander not to her own team and Captain, but to the matter of Zacharias Smith. She'd fancied him since the end of fifth year, and had since always looked forward to Ravenclaw's matches against Hufflepuff with an almost obscene urgency. Keeping her tone even and attempting to prevent another grin to spread across her face, Su shifted the subject slightly.

"But what about you Hufflepuffs this year? Smith's captain, still, yeah? Think you lot are ready for us?"

Megan was amused by Su's obvious dislike for the decision. In fact she couldn't help but grin as Su's face scrunched. It was a dumb move on Malfoy's part - yes. But Megan couldn't exactly say she was surprised. Malfoy had always seemed like the impulsive sort who took his best interests in before the groups. It really seemed like something he'd do. And from the looks of it - Vaisey and the rest of the team didn't have much against it.

"Oh," Megan thought a moment when the conversation shifted. "Yeah... I guess we're ready," she shrugged. "We'll just have to wait and see, huh?" Megan was more than aware of the Hufflepuff-Ravenclaw rivalry. She was also aware that the Claw-Puff game was just around the corner. Jinxing it and badmouthing at that particular point in time didn't seem wise. Especially since Su was...well very opinionated and full of house pride if memory served correctly.

"All I know is I'm real excited about actually playing," Megan explained. "At this point we've got three games to show we should be recruited to the pro's." Her tone was a bit sarcastic, but somewhere in there she did fantasize about actually getting recruited. It was unlikely - but it could happen! Maybe.

A small twinge of jealousy suddenly ran through Su when Megan mentioned recruiting. Even if she had been half joking, the fact that Megan mentioned the idea forced Su to remember that she was hopelessly unsure of what life after Hogwarts was going to hold for her. Everyone seemed to have some idea of what they'd be doing, or wanted to do - why is it she, Su Li, who practically lived for a challenge and for excelling at whatever she tried, couldn't seem to set her course in a straight line?

She looked at Megan curiously. "Do you want to play professionally?" It was a thought that had occurred to Su herself, once. But then, it was one of far too many ideas for even Su to sort through anymore. "It does seem like an exciting career."

"Who doesn't want to play professionally?" Megan replied to the question. It was pretty much one of those things everyone at some point in their life fantasized about. Course, for a really long time Megan Jones had gone through her share of sports dreams. Though she would have loved to play professional women's football at some point in her life she felt a pro-quidditch career had so many more options of growth and wealth.

Though....she wasn't naive enough to claim that's all she wanted to to do.

Grinning she continued with her train of thought, "Though realistically I doubt I've the experience or the skill to play professionally. It's just a fun thought, you know?"
